(Whittier) – California has named Patrick Winchell as its new head football coach the school confirmed Thursday.
Winchell has many years of coaching experience including stops at La Serna and most recently Cal. Winchell has been part of the California faculty for over a decade.
Winchell takes over for Louie Zamora who resigned last month after five years at the helm. The Condors went 2-8 last year and missed the playoffs.
Wow DaRanch. Never even heard of this guy before now. Sounds like another not so great hire.
Congrats coach, wish you the best.
Teams need a head coach who has great talent that , unfortunately, administrators and (ex head coaches who dont want to win) are too weak to have in their brain! A MOTIVATOR
Tens or a hundred assistant coaches who just got out of playoffs, some on very good teams with quality head coaches! What does Cal do? Who cares/ ? State test scores more important. Well probably are, but what can be learned on a football field impossible to learn in classroom. I would have waited and chose an experienced winner
Anonymous> ? Any expertise concerning ‘better players at Cal, SF, and Whittier’ transferring to LS and be freaking lucky just to get on one special team? Why will better players at other schools want to sit the bench, and not learn what it is like to actually play the game? You are ignorant little/ as I am too at times. Do you realize the idea ‘build it and they will come?” The famous movie ideology? La Habra did the same when the ‘great staff took over ‘ ??? 15 years ago. Annual 2 and 8 club until then. In about 3 or 4 years great staff /already had talent but talent grew with open enrollment (or parents moved in area or found a way). Why , if want college football scholarshp, play for Zamora when LH Staff very very much better? LH did not have bunch / several young ex el rancho players coaching like Cal does! La habra: porter, clements, Bartelone, and many more earn scholarships and win league and CiF titles! Possibly the last college football scholarship “EARNERS!’ at Cal-Hi was from 2009 through 2011-12 seasons. 2011 team being Cal’s last victory over La Serna , and only one or two players received football scholarships (maybe only one) that season. Before that Jones in 09 to Arizona and kicker to Hawaii. La Serna deserves all they got
tasty pick is a funny guy, I like him
Cal is like La Puente trying to keep players away from Amat. No chance when Cals can go to Serna.
Man you really know how to manipulate words. He knows the kids. Meaning, He knows what their strengths are, their weaknesses, how they respond to things, etc. Sometimes a brand new coach takes a while to learn those things which is more important than X’s and O’s.
DaRanch: Sarcasm at it’s finest.
Anonymous (1): “…knows the kids…”? You mean like friends? Follows them on social media?
Anonymous (2): Open enrollment is here to stay, that’s not a District thing, it’s a State thing that is allowed to be used within districts
Tasty Pick: You just wrong for that!
@DaRanch
haha… hahahaha…. HAHAHAHAHA
Winchell has always been good with the basics such as twists, jelly filled and maple bars. The other finalist, coach YumYum, said he’d consider an assistant position if it comes with coffee.
lol, yea right. This is an impossible situation,
Until the top talent decides to stay at their home school and not bolt to
La Serna. None of the Del Rio schools will have much success in league. WUHSD is all too happy letting LS get all the top players. It shines bright on them. Who cares if the other local schools get their best athletes swept up to
The Friendly Hills. It’s all worth it to the spineless administrators running WUHSD.
Winchell walking in to a good situation since he already knows the kids and there is likely going to be some reshuffling of the Del Rio League. His focus yearly will be to beat Santa Fe and El Rancho.
La Serna is in trouble now
