(San Marino) -The La Canada Spartans improved to 6-0 Friday evening, defeating the host Temple City Rams, 35-0, in the Rio Hondo League opener for both teams, on the grounds of San Marino High School.
Temple City, who’s own field and stadium are under renovation, are playing their home games at nearby San Marino High.
The Spartans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, converting on their first possession of the evening, as quarterback Joe Bell connected with wideout Quest Swan for an 18-yard touchdown. Swan also added the PAT, making the score 7-0 at the midpoint of the opening quarter.
The Spartans added another score in the quarter, when Jakob Kim found pay dirt on a 1-yard TD blast. A second Swan PAT made the score 14-0 at the end of the first period.
La Canada added their third score of the evening when Bell broke loose on a 47-yard run. A third Swan PAT made the score 21-0 at the end of the first half.
The Spartans added to their lead in the third when Bell connected with Swan for a 47-yard score, their second of the evening. A fourth successful Swan PAT made the score 28-0 as the third quarter came to a close.
La Canada scored for the final time in the fourth quarter when it executed a successful “double-pass”. Bell tossed the ball to running back Dash Paper, who connected with receiver Josh Carruthers for a 40-yard touchdown. Another Swan extra point made the score 35-0.
The Spartans next contest will be on Thursday night October 10 when they will host the Pasadena Poly Panthers. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Temple City’s next game is on Friday night October 11 when the Rams travel to Monrovia to battle the Wildcats. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
