(Monrovia) – Monrovia’s offense racked up 35 points and the defense did the rest in a 35-14 win over Baldwin Park Friday night.

The Wildcats forced three Baldwin Park turnovers including an interception that turned into a pick six in the first quarter that gave Monrovia a 13-0 lead.

Monrovia struck first when Byron Bell hauled in a 37-yard touchdown pass from Jesse Saucedo with 3:38 left in the first quarter.

On the next possession the Braves were backed up on their own 7-yard line when Padraic Brusseau picked off a Valentino May pass and returned it 15 yards for the score. The extra point was missed leaving the score 13-0 late in the first quarter.

With just over three minutes left in the second quarter Baldwin Park used a big play to get back in the game. May hit Jayden Maxie who grabbed the reception, broke to the outside and was gone for 62 yards down the sideline to cut the lead to six.

But that didn’t last long. On the ensuing kickoff, Byron Bell fielded the kick and raced 95 yards for the touchdown leaving BP defenders in his wake. The Cats two-point attempt failed and they led 19-7.

Two minutes later after stopping the Braves on fourth down, Monrovia reached into its bag of tricks and pulled out the old hook and ladder. Saucedo hit Troy Grise who then pitched it to Dashawn Sieber who outran the Baldwin Park secondary for a 53-yard touchdown. Again the two-point conversion failed, but Monrovia was cruising 25-7 into the halftime break.

The M-Town defense thwarted the Braves in the third quarter. Josh Santos and Zephyr Enriquez intercepted May on consecutive possessions. Enriquez booted a 30-yard field goal to make it 28-7 late in the third.

Monrovia added one more score in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run by Sieber.

The Braves did manage a late score when Donovan St. Cyr hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass.

For Monrovia Saucedo completed 12 passes for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns. Grise had 6 receptions for 107 yards and Sieber had 4 for 64 and a score. Bell had the kickoff return for a touchdown and caught 2 passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.

For Baldwin Park Jacory Coleman had 15 carries for 53 yards and Maxie had 3 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.
