- Indiana is the number one seed in the College Football Playoff brackets while Ohio State (2), Georgia (3) and Texas Tech (4) also received first round byes. Tulane is the number 11 seed and James Madison is 12. Miami and Alabama are also in and Notre Dame was left out.
- Notre Dame made the decision to not participate in a bowl game after they were left out of the College Football playoff.
- Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in a 36-19 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday. The Colts dropped to 8-5 with the loss.
- Iowa State and Kansas State were both fined $500,000 by the Big 12 for turning down bowl invitations.
- The Chargers will face the Philadelphia Eagles at SoFi Stadium on Monday Night Football.
- Washington will face Boise State in the LA Bowl at SoFi Stadium this Saturday December 13.
- USC will play TCU in the Alamo Bowl Tuesday December 30.
- Penn State has named Iowa State’s Matt Campbell as their new head football coach.
- Jeff Kent, who holds the record for most homeruns by a second baseman, was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Notable players Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, and Gary Sheffield did not receive enough support and were not elected.

I’m left to speculate that even if the Trojans had beaten Oregon, they might have been left out of the playoffs, same as Notre Dame. Also, the usage of the playoff system is causing this phenomenon of turning-down bowl games. I recommend filling those vacancies with the nation’s top high school teams; the players there would be happy to compete and show their stuff as they jockey for top NFL draft positions.
