Rather amazing that RHP has only 9 guys on their roster listed at 200 pounds or more.

By comparison teams like Troy, Thousand Oaks, Redondo Union, and 2 teams Redondo beat St Paul & Loyola, all had at least 19 to 23 players 200+ pounds. So twice as many as RHP. Sonora also has 19 or 20.

Just goes to show you that with some good coaching, some hard working players, and some great teamwork, even a FB team on the smaller side, can accomplish some big things.

Digging further, I discovered that Sonora California’s population is still only around 5,000. Their state title venue is Saddleback College, which holds 8,000. The whole city of Sonora could make the trip and finding seating. Incidentally, the enrollment at Sonora is 923, so it looks like the interest has turned from mining gold to running the gridiron. Hope RHP gets the gold Saturday.

Last time I was there Sonora was a sleepy little Gold Rush town. Just a few thousand people. Kind of surprised that that school has such a high quality football team given this population of its surroundings. Their roster is pretty impressive especially in height and size. But so far those advantages don’t seem to be important to RHP.

The only team I knew of named Sonora is the one in La Habra, so I had to dig a little to discover that RHP’s foe this Saturday is named for the CITY of Sonora, which is between Stockton and Modesto, a bit southwest of Sacramento. Good luck to the Kares as they enjoy the relative home field advantage. Now I’m going to look up Balboa, because the only thing I know of by that name is Rocky Balboa.
From T. Peterson: Sonora, CA. Correct.
