  1. Brazil beat Japan 2-1 Monday to advance to the round of 16 in the World Cup.
  2. Other World Cup Monday Results: Paraguay 1 Germany 1 (Paraguay wins 4-3 on penalty kicks); Morocco 1 Netherlands 1 (Morocco wins 3-2 on penalty kicks).
  3. The Detroit Lions have released cornerback Terrion Arnold after he was arrested last week on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.
  4. The Memphis Grizzlies traded guard Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.
  5. Kristaps Porzingis returned to the Golden State Warriors on a two-year, $40 million contract.
  6. Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis were indicted Monday on charges related to an alleged sports gambling scheme that targeted at least four games during the 2023-24 season, according to a federal indictment. Beasley and Davis are among six defendants indicted including an NBA agent.
  7. Center Deandre Ayton is opting into his $8.1 million player option with the Lakers.
  8. Lakers guard Marcus Smart has declined his $5.4 million player option and will become a free agent.
  9. Orange junior quarterback Star Thomas III has at least six offers and is reportedly being recruited by USC, Michigan and Ohio State.
  10. Former NFL running back Chris Johnson said he has been diagnosed with ALS in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” that aired Monday. Johnson, 40, who played for the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and the Arizona Cardinals in a 10-year career, rushed for 2,006 yards for the Titans in 2009 and was voted the AP Offensive Player of the Year.

    9) Hold your horses . He’s been lighting up against lesser competition in these 7 x7 tournaments- sure amazing stats like 24 TDs and 0 interceptions- but that’s not going to draw the interest of Ohio State or Michigan
    He is more like lower level power 5 and he has offers from UNLV , Purdue and Arkansas . According to AI , not on the Buckeye radar
    UNLV is his best shot .

    This Orange QB Star Thomas III is 6′ even and 192 pounds. That physical makeup is what the best running backs possess. True to the numbers, this guy is a dual threat. If he were a couple inches taller, he’d be the complete package, but as he stands, I can at least see why Orange beat St Paul in the Battle for the SVG passing tourney.
