(Whittier) – Aiden Garate accounted for all five Santa Fe touchdowns as he thew for four and ran for one to lead the Sentinels to a 38-8 rout of Glendale Thursday night at Dick Torres Stadium to kick off the 2026 season.
Jeremiah Norman was on the receving end of three of Garate’s touchdown passes. Santa Fe led 28-0 at halftime and coasted the rest of the way.
Arman Papazyan scored on a 54-yard touchdown run for Glendale. The Dynamiters also forced a safety late in the game.

@ The Watcher: I prefer larger leagues as well; having four teams (or sometimes even three) in a league is just ridiculous. Nonleague games should not make up more than two-thirds of the regular-season schedule.
I think MAC12 would have been better with 2 conferences with best and worst moving up and down

@ GroundNPound: Alhambra is now merely in the same conference as Mark Keppel. (That conference being the MAC-12.) Putting AHS in the same league as Keppel once again would’ve been totally wrong, but the Moors might’ve ended up there had they done much worse than 6-6 last season.
The Arroyo Knights have a nice setup in the new Conference 12 League, though, having Mountain View, Rosemead, and Keppel as opponents.
We’ll see how the new league and conference arrangements play out. I hope that the Mark Keppel Aztecs can win a playoff spot in their league sooner rather than later; the new format might be their best chance of doing it.
I find the issue of public schools having to drop football one of extreme shame and embarrassment. This is the United States’ most popular athletic activity, so these schools’ lack of support for it is spitting in the face of our culture. High school coaches should absolutely be part of the faculty, with commensurate pay and benefits. Of course, some programs will be more successful than others, but it shouldn’t be due to lack of administrative support.
The whole crest league needed to scramble to find a game after Marshall announced they were dropping football. At least Blair announced they were dropping soon enough the league had some time to find replacements, Marshall waited until after schedules were set.

From T. Peterson: Alhambra is not in the same league as Keppel. They’re with South El Monte, Montebello and San Gabriel in the Alliance League.

From T. Peterson: Yes, that was the only local game. Glendale had a team drop off its schedule and they were scrambling for a game. They were able to work out a game with Santa Fe but the only date available was August 14.

be fired up with their new Coach.
How much of the Chiefs-style music and arms gestures were still being used last night? I don’t believe Sacramento’s edict includes changing the band’s musical offerings. In this era of naming one’s own identity, it’s got to be OK to say a guy who looks like a Chief has inwardly transitioned into a Sentinel.
