After Gladstone High was closed down, I was expecting Azusa to be a lot better because it was going to merger the two Azusa high school programs. I guess the Gladstone kids went to play for Northview or some other schools instead? I did not think they would be power house. But, I thought they would be a respectable .500 team annually or maybe a little better.
What someone posted earlier was accurate, for the longest time the Almont was one of the worst leagues in the Southern Section, Schurr then decided to get the propaganda and hype machine going full throttle. They brought in Montoya and some pop warner recruiters. Sure they did get some decent kids, but when push came to shove the X’s and O’s were severely lacking hence why they keep losing in the 1st round. Somehow someway the admin at St. Paul took the bait and will pay for it severely, from what I was told they have 9 total freshmen in the program.
Hype means different things. to me it does not mean singing the pratses of a coach or a team for every good thing they do. To me it means it follows lopsidedly things said or done by certain coaches and their teams. We know a lot about Maxie, Montoya, Matt V because the media follows them and their teams. They are hyped The big wins were in my estimation were Northview, San Dimas, El Rancho and Nogales. Who coaches those guys. No regular hype. Like all media today its the coaches that offer some drama that get the hype, the spotlight.Baldwin Park, St. Paul, Muir will get even more hype when they lose and even more when they lose big. They create views. I get it. You want hype for Rosemead? Better read the school paper if that still exists.
From T. Peterson: When I was in High School I wrote for the Arroyo school paper. Knights Banner! Good times!
Bp and Muir head coaches all hype no substance. What have either of them ever won.All transfer get are a bunch of empty promises.Golden ticket promise.
From T. Peterson: Maxie made it all the way to the CIF Championship game last season with BP and Matt V turned Sierra Vista around winning 11 games his first year. He also won a league title and took Nogales to the playoffs last season. I understand you hate transfers and their process of getting players but you might want to do some homework on what success they’ve had.
Peterson needs to recheck the hype on Montoya. He is a product of Ramos all hype. When it comes down to it just good for making hype videos and yelling and screaming. His knowledge of Xs and Is lacking when compared to the teams he plays now. There is no more Keppel, Alhambra, San Gabriel on the schedule. St. Paul will win one game this year against Whittier. If St. Paul with proven Coaches last year couldn’t do anything at St. Paul. Montoya and all the Schurr coaches he brought aren’t gonna do anything.
It’s look like our DC is in mid season form. Please Coach Pete make the change. The guy is clueless and is the weak link. Our run defense looked like Swiss cheese on Thursday. We’ve always had pride in our defense but with this guy leading it, that pride is gone.
Maybe Fred will got off Maxie’s N…now. Baldwin Park D12 type of team trying to hang with the big dawgs.
According to CIF if a school in a four team drops football the whole league can’t make the playoffs. If Keppel doesn’t field a team than Rosemead, Mt. View and Arroyo are out of the playoffs. That’s one of the reasons the Mt Sac area went back to 6 teams in league.
Can we talk about Coach Maxi and all the hype around him what a joke. And that other guy forget his name
What happened to Keppel. Did they refose to play or is their season over?
What happened to Downey? Maybe Poly is just that good, but at this point, it looks like that LS-Vikings game is going to be really special.
Baldwin park knows how to play the CIF playoff system….”waiting on transfer, lol. lose lose lose win one in League go to a low division in the playoff, good loss BP.
Almost all the pundits had South Hills and Bakdwin Parl and Muir all ranked high up in the SGV. Muir did not have their transfer true but what was BP’s excuse. Is their missing guy a middle line backer or a interception machine? Giving up 49 in 24 minutes speaks to terrible coaching. Muir could not amass 100 yards on offense and only 7 yds passng with their D1 receivers. That is impossible. Plus Muir has to play a Las Vegas monster next week. South Hills with their touted QB and super sized bubbas ran into the Blue Wave. Nothing to see here from El Rancho but the same pld stuff. Solid football/. My take is the touted transfer coaches took it on the chin against the old pros that stay in the hood year after year. Whittier may be the exception with the new Garfield coach but it was only TC that they worked over but still. And Schurr? Against a rebuilt RP squad could not scoea a point in 48 minutes?
@ For Schurr, both Schurr and St. Paul are going through a transition and at times it is not pretty. Neither school has been on the message boards hyping themselves up. It will take a huge effort from St. Paul but I am positive they will bounce back in the second half of the season. Schurr will have to improve a lot on Special team and the young starters need to grow up fast.
@JMaldon
And I thought Fierro was a defensive guy lol…..
I’m impressed with what I’ve seen from the two Schurr guys, Dave Ramos and Austin Montoya. They’ve both managed to keep their scoring to a perfect zero, no doubt to show mercy for their respective opponents. Tim Peterson’s assessment of Montoya in particular looks spot-on, because thus far, the kid’s making believers out of his critics.
Medrano and staff once again with the master class, if not for ER playing such a sloppy 1st half they win by 3 TD’s easily. Way to outprogram and outplay South Hills. South Hills had 2 massive OL at Tackle and the QB ran for his life all night.
LA SERNA 55, @ Baldwin Park 7
Good start to the season for LS.
I’ll just mention all of the Arroyo league teams because I want to but as far as it went tonight, Muir didn’t start Agbunag since they couldn’t get him cleared and as you would expect, their offense struggled mightily. La Canada narrowly held on at home against Fillmore. Seems like the La Canada offense is gonna be good which isn’t much of a surprise. Monrovia got beat down by Brentwood and I also heard Jesse Saucedo didn’t play (wonder if it has to do something with what happened over the offseason). Finally for the game I was actually at, Burbank crushed a very poor Cabrillo team 38-0 as expected behind good performances across the team (and Cabrillo’s god awful offense).
La Serna got a beat down from Baldwin Park!
Damn!!! What a Defensive Battle in the Cantwell game!!! Ha, haaaa!
Looking at the wipeout score in the DR-Los Altos game, we have to wonder: is Diamond Ranch that bad, or is L.A. that good? A little of both, I suspect.
From T. Peterson: Yes, it’s a little of both. I had it 34-13 LA but I was being kind. Los Altos had a really good summer and looks like they are set for a big year. Good skill guys, line etc. Diamond Ranch has struggled the last couple of years and now they have a new coaching staff as well so they’re adjusting to that. Plus they lost their quarterback and a couple of other players to transfer. It’s going to be a tough year for DR.
