Damien and Bishop Amat and kept the top spots with solid victories in Zero Week. Bonita moved up while Downey and Muir moved down. Nice wins for Rio Hondo Prep and Northview. La Canada and El Rancho sneak into the mix with opening night wins.
1. Damien (1-0) – Spartans off and running with a nice win over Aquinas.
2. Bishop Amat (1-0) – Quarterback Domenico Doran and the Lancers dominate St. Paul.
3. Bonita (1-0) – Bearcats beat Muir; will be scary when everybody’s back.
4. Charter Oak (0-0) – Chargers open this week at Upland.
5. La Serna (1-0) – La Serna clicks on all cylinders in the opener.
6. Downey (0-1) – Tough loss to Long Beach Poly. Vikes will try to bounce back against Capistrano Valley.
7. Rio Hondo Prep (1-0) – Kares don’t miss a beat. Matt Montez!
8. Northview (1-0) – Huge road win for Vikings at Thousand Oaks,
9. Los Altos (1-0) – Conquerors take no prisoners in rout of Diamond Ranch.
10. La Canada (1-0) – Spartans open with win over Fillmore.
11. Muir (0-1) – Mustangs need to clear things up.
12. El Rancho (1-0) – Adrian Medrano always gets the most out of his players.
Did you make it a top 12 instead of a top 10 just to stick in your fave El Rancho?
From T. Peterson: I’ve done a Top 12 for several years now. Top 10 is too boring/pedestrian.
@ John Lennon’s guitar,
If a situation happens where Agbunag’s transfer is denied I think Muir goes 2-8 with their only wins against a very bad Monrovia and Pasadena team.
@bhf …. I have no idea of specifics . However any governing body would look askance at an August out of state transfer !
Look at Matt V track record : 2024 he is hired as assistant at Nogales ; immediately multiple transfers come in ; transfers are held up , denied , etc . HC takes the fall for illicit activities and somehow Matt V becomes head coach in middle of season .
2023: he doesnt make it through season at Amat-a program that has internal standards
Tim lauds his Sierra Vista year , but these transfer issues were there too. He left and left the program in shambles , out scored 373-36! the following year . Sierra Vista really hasn’t recovered from his tactics .
Some coaches are transactional, some are transformational… Matt V is poster child for the transactional set and can’t believe Muir bought the bag of hot air
@ We All Shine On,
Do you think there is a good chance that Muir have paid Agbunag to come play for them and that what’s happening here is CIF investigating them for suspicious transfers?
@ bHF … great coaching move ,bring in uncleared QB / send the kid who was your leader in what was heralded as a successful summer packing .
Now you can only run two plays out of wildcat and your season is dependent upon the mercy of CIF .,..karma
I can get behind this ranking, because it has omitted the St Paul Swordsmen. Montoya’s group has a very tough schedule, but there needs to be at least a spark of life against even the heavyweights, if only to maintain team morale. My other thoughts concern the status of the Downey Vikings. Is this year’s edition weaker than usual? Finally, it needs to be admitted that Matty V is not up to the task of keeping Muir in the ranks of the very best programs. The Stangs’ problems involve much more than the clearing of Agbunag; Steve Bogan and company rendered that verdict loud and clear.
Muir desperately needs Agbunag to get cleared because man are they gonna get crushed by multiple teams if he doesn’t. If they can’t get him cleared by this Friday, Pinecrest Sloan Canyon is going to beat them by at least 3 touchdowns I think.
Coach seems to do it with smoke and mirrors every year. He lists his running backs weight at 170, 165 and the top running back at 150. From the looks of them I doubt anyone of them reaches 140. South Hills was huge on both sides of the ball but somehow the ranch was able to run on them. The ranch doesn’t win all their games but they are sure fun to watch and the atmosphere is great. By the way El Rancho’s defense does not take a back seat to anyone. It is fun to think what Medrano would do with D1 Talent but I don’t think he would even contemplate ever leaving El Rancho.
