(Pico Rivera, CA) In what was essentially the Metro League title match between the El Rancho Dons (6-2, 1,0) and the Bell Gardens Lancers (7-1,1-0) the Dons dominated the game defensively en route to a 25-0 victory at El Rancho High School Friday night.
While other SGV schools were under threat of weather, the air was cool and dry in Pico Rivera as the two top Metro League schools went at it.
Both teams defenses took over the early part of the contest and it wasn’t until early in the second quarter that either teams got points on the board.
An eight-play Don drive stalled at the Lancer three-yard line and Ace Anaya came on to boot a 20-yard field goal.

Later in the quarter Bell Gardens drove the ball deep into El Rancho territory, but the drive stalled at the Don 20. Jason Salceda came on to attempt a 38-yard field goal but his attempt sailed wide left.
The Dons took over on their 20 and went on an eight play, 80-yard drive capped by a 32-yard touchdown pass from Adrian Lopez to Ray Madrid III. El Rancho went for two and completed the conversion on a pass from Lopez to Jacob Hernandez.
A few light sprinkles greeted the teams in the second half but that didn’t hold back Madrid who called his own number on the second play on a drive starting at the El Ranco 20. Madrid found a seam and was gone 75-yard to paydirt. Anaya added the extra point and the Dons led 18-0.
Both defenses held for the remainder of the third quarter and the Don’s final dagger came with 8:52 left in the final frame.

Noah Garcia capped a 13-play, 95-yard drive with a one-yard plunge into the endzone. With Anaya’s point after El Rancho had an insurmountable lead.
El Rancho with the win essentially wrapped up the Metro League as their final game of the season with be at home with El Monte (0-2, 2-7).
Bell Gardens will be at home looking to regain momentum heading into post season hosting former Almont League foe the Schurr Spartans.
