I’m usually excited about the start of baseball season. I was looking at a baseball preview Sunday and suddenly realized opening day is Thursday. In the midst of March Madness Major League Baseball wasn’t on my radar.

It started last Tuesday and it hasn’t let up since. There were games every day through Sunday and it all starts over again Thursday. It’s the greatest spectacle in sports.

I was making my football rounds last summer when I stopped by Muir High School. I walked on the field, greeted Coach Ken Howard and asked him if I could talk to him in a few minutes after I snapped some shots.

The Peterson Principle 2/9/11

Ben Roethlisberger threw two picks and missed on several passes. One interception was returned to the house and the other cut short a drive. But despite all that, if Rashard Mendenhall doesn’t fumble early in the fourth quarter, you get the feeling the Steelers win the game.

The NFL is going to try something new next year. They put in the new overtime rule for the playoffs this year and they decided to really shake things up in 2011. They figured it’s innovative and a financial bonanza so they decided to give it a shot.

While sitting in the press box last Thursday night at Qualcomm Stadium watching the Holiday Bowl, a version of the old Dire Straits song kept popping into my head. “You get your football for nothing, you get your grubb for free. No that ain’t working.”
