All kickoffs are at 7:00 PM unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday October 29

Glendora (6-3) at Bonita (9-0)

Bonita got a huge game from Joseph Lara last week in a win over previously unbeaten Charter Oak. The Bearcats are clearly the King of the Sierra League. There’s no way the Bonita will let Glendora stand in the way of perfect season. Bearcats run the table.

Baldwin Park (8-1) at South Hills (6-3)

Baldwin Park’s big game was last week. The Braves took care of business last week and will complete a sweep of the Hacienda League this week. Braves roll.

Bishop Amat (8-1) at Sierra Canyon (9-0)

Bishop Amat has been playing well. The Lancers are on a four-game winning streak and have lost only once all year. But Sierra Canyon is a different animal. The Trailblazers have rolled through nine games and have outscored their nine opponents 391-54. No, that’s not a typo. Sierra Canyon is next level. The Trailblazers get the win and gear up for the playoffs.

San Gabriel (4-5) at South El Monte (6-3)

South El Monte let one get away two weeks ago at SoFi Stadium against Alhambra. The Eagles bounced back last week with a close win over Montebello and need a win this week over San Gabriel for a shot at the Alliance League title. San Gabriel held on to beat Alhambra last week after falling to Montebello two weeks ago. Right now there is a four-way tie with everybody sitting at 1-1. South El Monte jumps out to a lead but this time holds on to it. Eagles get the victory.

Alhambra (5-4) at Montebello (3-6)

Like South El Monte and San Gabriel both teams need a win here to stay in the hunt. Montebello’s defense has played well at times but the Oilers have had trouble stopping people. It should come down to the wire with both teams battling for their playoff lives. Montebello comes up big in the fourth quarter and emerges with the victory.

South Pasadena (7-2) at San Marino (9-0)

It’s been memorable year for San Marino. The Titans are on the verge of a perfect regular season and are coming off a 42-0 win over Gabrielino, but this will be their biggest test this year. South Pasadena is tied with San Marino atop the Boulder League at 4-0. The Tigers have a couple of nice wins over Crescenta Valley and San Gabriel and lost to a tough La Canada team by only a touchdown. Quarterback Cody Robinson has thrown for 515 yards and ran for 141 and Evan Hyun has rushed for 921 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Tigers are hard to stop at times. San Marino will counter with Parker Wilson (1,170 yards passing, 16 touchdowns) and Nathan Nielson (558 yards rushing, 11 touchdowns). The question is who will make the most stops? South Pasadena rises to the occasion.

La Serna (8-1) at Downey (6-3)

This is the game everybody has been waiting for since La Serna joined the Gateway League. Also both teams have lived up to expectations. La Serna hasn’t been tested in league. The Lancers have blown out their four league opponents. In fact, they have blown every opponent this year except for the one game they lost to Corona del Mar. They have scored 50 or more points in five of their eight victories. The offense, led by Grady Long and Landon Armenta, has been as explosive as any team in the area. Downey is used to these types of games Every year the Vikings, like the Lancers, haven’t been challenged in the Gateway. The Vikes did lose to Long Beach Poly, Capistrano Valley and Inglewood but these are highly ranked teams. They play a brutal non-league schedule. Downey fell to Capistrano Valley by 12 but Capistrano Valley is ranked 25th in California. Downey’s offense is efficient with quarterback Chase Watkins and receiver Damani Porras. However, La Serna can bang with the big boys. The Lancers have shown that before. These two teams are almost mirror images of each other. Downey is ranked 94 in the state by Max Preps while La Serna is 99. It’s that close. The home field will work in Donwey’s favor. The Viking faithful always packs the stands. And Downey has plenty of experience on the big stage as well. Downey makes the key plays down the stretch and comes out on top.

Glendale (2-7) at Hoover (6-3)

This game actually has playoff implications. With a win Hoover would finish 2-1 in the Crest League and would be firmly entrenched in second place. A loss would generate a three-way tie for second. Arcadia would win the league at 3-0 with Temple City, Hoover and Glendale all at 1-2. By comparison Hoover beat Temple City 49-14 while Glendale lost to the Rams 21-6. Hoover lost to Arcadia two weeks ago 42-27 while Glendale fell to Arcadia 41-38 last week in a tight battle. Both teams like to pound the ball and have solid running attacks. In the end Hoover grinds out the win.
