I remembered the day my sixth grade basketball team at Rio Hondo elementary won the championship. We had to go through a death march to get it done knocking off beasts like Gidley, Durfee and Cherrylee. There was nothing sweeter than walking into Durfee’s house and walking out with a victory.

Jose Lima had made the transition that many athletes are never able to make. After 13 years in the big leagues and numerous stints in the minor leagues, Dominican leagues and leagues here and beyond, he had retired. While other athletes can’t accept life away from the playing field, Lima was embracing it.

By Tim Peterson It’s something you don’t see here in the San Gabriel Valley. Here we see some really good football and some pretty decent baseball. It’s not too much different than what you would see in other parts of Southern California. But when it comes to basketball it’s a different story.

I took a working vacation last week. And although it was a vacation from the usual 9:00-5:00 grind it was all work when it came to covering sports. Of course sitting in the sun watching baseball games isn’t really work so I guess it was a vacation after all.

The worst thing about March Madness is at some point it has to end. It finally did Monday night and I hated to see it go. The Duke-Butler Championship game was maybe the greatest ever.
