Good Evening!

With the playoffs looming… I would like to extend another thank you to CIF (no sarcasm) no trips to the high desert this post-season…

***

I had this great idea…how about a playoff for college football?

What do you think?

***

On this night 38 years ago Mt. View and Rosemead faced off for the first time and it was all Panthers. Lennie Krauss scored two touchdowns, Dan Bell another, and George Castro registered a safety in Mead’s 23-0 victory.

Same night at Montebello High School, Schurr got a 35-yard field goal from Eddie Zennedoian with 1:10 to play and beat Arroyo 17-14…The Montebello Oilers were at Horrell Field where they rallied with two fourth quarter touchdowns to upset Muir 14-10. The Oilers comeback efforts were keyed by halfback Jesse Gonzalez’s 52-yard run where a crowd of 3,000 people saw him break three tackles on his way to the end zone…

Note to CV Friend: No, you are not beating Burroughs tomorrow night.

***

Thanks to the Bearcats coming in last night from La Verne…I hope things work out well for middle linebacker Eric Mikity in regards to homecoming…

***

The 49ers need a playmaker and it will be interesting to see what former Buckeye Troy Smith does replacing the injured Alex Smith…

…okay…

***

Bonita and West Covina are deadlocked in this week’s poll…I’m leaning Bulldogs…but I’ll pick a winner on Saturday…

***

I’ve got this feeling Muir isn’t just going to rollover and settle for a fourth place, or even third place, spot in the Pacific.

Note to Mustang OC Anytone Sims: Pound the ball amigo…pound it until you can’t pound it anymore….Then let Jeff Davis go deep.

***

Who was the stiff on this site that referenced Maranatha HC Joel Murphy as Joel Wilson?

My lips are sealed but his initials are J.T.

***

Walnut’s fading playoff hopes could dim considerably if Brandon Roach is done…The quarterback has had an excellent year and proven to be one of the toughest players in the Southeast.

***

What happens if Wilson beats Baldwin Park? The Wildcats are 4-3  overall, 1-2 in league, but they are considered the underdog against a 2-5 Braves team.

Peterson has BP winning 21-10, CalPreps has the Braves winning 27-17.

I’m gonna go with Wilson…If they win out they’ll finish 4-2 in the Valle Vista with head to head victories over Baldwin Park and San Dimas…

(Of course beating the Saints is hardly a given)…With all the drama at Wilson, it is amazing that the Wildcats still control their own destiny.

***

Last Add Wilson: Super soph Raymond Sierra…He brings the ka-boom…

***

Everyone knows I’ve been pro Whittier Christian’s Grant Escobar for some time, but the player with the stats, seemingly getting very little ink, is Cameron Stanley. He makes plays too…and another reason why I like the Heralds on Friday night.

***

And what happened to the Miami Heat last night? I thought they were going to go 82-0.

***

I think Oddibe McDowell is going to be the difference for the Rangers in the World Series. They’ll take the Giants in six.

On this date in 2006: After a bundle of turnovers left Arroyo down, at home, 20-7 in the first half to Rosemead, Knights quarterback Brian Partida told his HC Jim Singiser, “Don’t worry I got this coach”. In the fourth quarter Partida made good with a pair of touchdowns passes. First a 12-yard strike to tight end Mike Sotello and then a 23-yarder to Marcos Sanchez that gave Arroyo a 27-23 victory.

Speaking of Bonita: On this night in 2006 at Glen Davis Stadium the Bearcats, thanks to a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown by Philip Aguayo took a 14-10 lead over Charter Oak in the third quarter.

But the Chargers responded and Michael Johnson scored the game winner on a 5-yard run in the fourth.

Last Add Aguayo: Besides the pick-six, he also returned a kick-off 99-yards for a touchdown in the first half.

Stay thirsty my friends…
