(Pasadena) – Crescenta Valley led 28-20 in the second quarter but host Pasadena raced back with 33 consecutive points and went on to beat the Falcons 53-42 in a Pacific League shootout.
After the Bulldog run, Crescenta Valley responded with the last two scores to make it interesting.
Pasadena was not only explosive offensively but also efficient having committed just one penalty before Coach Randy Horton emptied the bench with six minutes to go in the contest.
Brandon Cox, as usual, was the motor that made the Pasadena engine run. He completed 16 of 26 for 307 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. He also had 10 carries for 53 yards.
For Crescenta Valley, Marro Lee rushed for 179 yards on 22 carries and William Wang had eight carries for 99 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Zac Wilkerson was 9 of 16 for 90 yards but scored three times on the ground.
CV went up 14-0 on a three yard run by Forrest Graves and a 28 yard TD run by Wilkerson in the first quarter.
Cleo Bates scored from six yards out on a shuffle pass from Cox and Cox did it himself with a three yard sprint to cut the lead to 14-13.
CV went up 21-13 on a one yard keeper by Wilkerson but Cox hit Riian Simpson for 19 yards to answer back.
Wilkerson’s 17 yard touchdown run made it 28-20 before the Bulldogs went on their extended run.
Riian Simpson, caught another scoring strike from Cox and Marcus Green also corralled a touchdown pass during the onslaught. Bates also found pay dirt again from five yards out.
The scoring bonanza finally came to an end with 1:07 left in the game when Wang scored on a two yard run. But Pasadena had just enough to hold on.
