(Whittier) – The Bellflower Buccaneers scored first, last, and virtually everywhere in between Thursday evening, defeating the host California Condors 47-10 at Sandy Thorstenson Stadium.
Bellflower scored first on its first possession when quarterback Elacion Saxton connected with wideout Austin Miller for an 18-yard touchdown. The PAT was added by Bralynn Graham making the score 7-0 with 6:28 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Condors answered on their next possession when quarterback Jake Welsh III found wide receiver Jayden Gonzalez for a 6-yard scoring connection. The extra point was kicked by Brandon Corvera-Vitervo, making the score 7-7 as the first quarter ended.
The Buccaneers added to their lead in the second quarter when Saxton scored on a 4-yard blast. Graham again booted the point after to make it 14-7 with 8:19 remaining until the break.
Cal put up another three points as Graham hit a 38-yard field goal. Unfortunately for the Condors this would be the entirety of their scoring for the game.
Bellflower added another touchdown before the break when Saxton hit Miller for their second score of the evening…an 8-yard scoring strike. Another Graham PAT made the score 21-10 at halftime.
Scoring slowed a bit in the third quarter with the only points coming from a 30-yard Graham field goal. This made the score 24-10 after three quarters of play.
The Buccaneers picked it back up in the fourth putting three more touchdowns on the scoreboard. The first came when Saxton tossed a 26-yard pass to Brandon Munoz. The second was the result of a Saxton to Keondre Smith 26-yard catch and run. The third score was provided by the Bellflower defense when defensive back Darion Richardson returned a Welsh interception 60 yards for a “Pick Six”. Three more Graham PAT’s made the score 45-10 with 4:56 remaining in the contest.
The final points came on a Condor miscue on their final play of the evening. Cal was lined up to punt when the snap went past the punter and through the end zone resulting in a safety being awarded to Bellflower. This made the final score 47-10.
Bellflower will take their newly minted 2-0 Mid-Cities League record on the road next Friday night when it travels to Paramount to battle the Pirates. California will look to rebound on the road against Gahr.
