Fanview Heavy: November 7, 2011

Arcadia's Clarence Irvin (44 tackles, 5.5 sacks) has got the goods.

Good Evening!

When we were growing up, on my street, Muhammad Ali was a jerk. We all loved Joe Frazier and always felt Ali got all the praise and adulation from the media not only for being a great fighter but because he was outspoken against the war in Vietnam. So while Ali was always being built up, Frazier was ignored.

We loved Frazier because he mixed and never danced, because he carried a lunch pale and could launch a left hook the equivalent of a Titan missile. So sorry to hear about his passing.

In the supermarket today I saw a magazine with Ali on the cover with a caption saying “He changed the world…” Really? The greatest fighter of all time, yes, but did he really change the world?

Joe Montana may have been the greatest quarterback of all time, but did he change the world? Did Wayne Gretzky? Michael Jordan?

If you want to talk Jackie Robinson, then I’m with you.

Like the sportswriter Max Mercy famously said; “They come and they go Hobbs, they come and they go.”

First Add San Gabriel: I have solid and reliable Matador football information going all the way back to 1955…and the record indicates at no time did they ever score 69 points in a contest before last Friday night against Alhambra.

For those that were complaining about there not being a new episode of “The Walking Dead”, you weren’t paying attention. It aired on CBS Saturday night and went by the name of LSU versus Alabama…

Oh, I’ve always been a Clarence Irvin fan!

San Gabriel quarterback Andy Guerrero has accounted for 29 touchdowns: 20 passing, 9 running…He’s thrown for over 2,000 yards and at 822 yards rushing he is on the cusp of clearing a thousand for the season…You know what you call that? You call that Nick Bueno type numbers.

On this date in 1980 El Monte’s Hector Urias went 10 of 19 for 180 yards and three touchdowns in the Lions 30-6 victory over Arroyo. He also added a 20-yard field goal to go with his touchdown passes to Anthony Silva (9-yds), Johnny Ramirez (67-yds), and Alex Roman (4-yds).

EM’s Stanford Tucker returned an interception 60-yards for a touchdown.

Villathedevil says he’s got the Wednesday night football action covered for us…So I imagine he intends on covering Bassett at Ganesha…He’s a heck of a good guy…

Take this in the spirit of which it is offered: Monrovia quarterback Blake Heyworth is an MVP candidate whose stock will continue to rise through the playoffs…

Not an MVP? Okay, but tell me where M-Town would be right now…or how you would be feeling about M-Town right now, with the playoffs getting set to start, if Heyworth wasn’t serving as the Wildcats triggerman?

Ten different San Dimas players have scored rushing in 2011. Six San Dimas runners have rushed for over 200 yards on the season and eight of them have rushed for over a 100 yards…Much of the success can be attributed to the offensive line play of William Anguiano and Lucas Darling.

Really Zander? It took you six carries to pick up 220 yards against Hoover? Come on dude you need to pick it up.

The last time La Puente beat Azusa was on November 9th, 2007 at McInstosh Stadium. In the 24-13 victory, the Warriors were led by Steven Barrientos’ 153 yards on 11 carries, scoring on a 50-yard run in the fourth quarter.

What do Rosmead alums Jose Samano, Mike Gomez, Joe Silva, Cesar Barriga, Deon Sumler, Paul Wilson, Tra Sumler, and Matt Fregoso have in common with Matt Eddy?

Yep, I might have been a little premature on the Muir talk…but give credit to Burbank and HC Hector Valencia what a huge, huge win for The Bank.

Was South Pasadena overrated or San Marino underrated?

The answer? The Titans Kwame Do has been overlooked.

That’s according to someone serving on the San Marino staff.

I agreed and then told them to post some stats so Do’s great season can be appreciated.

If the Indianapolis Colts get a shot at Stanford’s Andrew Luck and don’t draft him because of Peyton Manning…then they are fools…Draft Luck and let him play behind Manning…If Manning doesn’t like that set up, well, tell him they can always use a quarterback in Arizona.

Next Add San Gabriel: No truth to the rumors Grief Counselors were called into Alhambra High School to console Moors fans after Friday night’s 69-14 loss to San Gabriel.

When the time comes to argue for All Southeast Division teams, Bonita running back Cameron Griffin needs to be in the discussion…Yeah, I said a Bearcat running back needs to be considered for the All Southeast team.

Last Add San Gabriel: That Matador coaching staff is just terrible ain’t it?

I put together a 300 word story on Arcadia’s win over Pasadena…and made no mention of Taylor Lagace.

Bad writing on my part, or do the Apaches have a whole host of weapons to go to battle with?

I like El Monte on Thursday night against Arroyo…Blue Tide will roll. Momentum and being long overdue is working for them…I’ve got nothing but love for Arroyo, but its no secret they’ve been walking a high wire…and it keeps getting thinner and thinner.

The game not to overlook is Rosemead at South El Monte…that game, with a little less on the table, will be no less intense. The Panthers and Southman have a history of putting on a great show.

Best picture of the year, so far, is Bad News Barker’s shot of El Monte linebacker Joe Sanchez holding up the Griffin Bowl trophy…unless the Lions win CIF you won’t see that look of joy on Sanchez’s face until he holds his first born in the next few years.

Help me, help you!
