(Pomona) Denzel Talifero had three touchdowns on the ground, another one passing and two interceptions on defense to lead the Duarte Falcons (2-2) to a 35-20 victory over the Ganesha Giants (0-4) Thursday night at Nancy J. McCraken stadium at Ganesha High School.

It was the Montview League opener for both schools and the first half was dominated by the Falcons on both sides of the ball.

Marcus Lewis got things started for Duarte with 2:40 left in the first quarter scoring on a one yard yard that capped a five play 54-yard drive. Lewis ground out 113-yards on 21 carries.

Denzel Talifero has a monster night against Ganesha

Talifero scored three times in the first half on runs of 13, one and nine yards. The Falcon starting quarterback and linebacker tallied 98-yards rushing, 126-yards passing on eight of 16 completions and the three scores.

Sandwiched in between the Duarte scoring outburst was a 75-yard strike from Ganesha’s Albert Henry to Patrick White.

The Giants cut the lead to 28-13 when Kevin Jones took the opening kickoff and raced 99-yards to paydirt.

A few minutes later Ganesha cut the lead to eight on a four play 40-yard drive finished off by a 15-yard pass from Henry to Dexter Sumner. The short field was set up by the Giants getting a stop when the Falcons went for it on fourth and short on their own 38.

The final score of the night came when Duarte was backed up deep in their own end of the field facing a third and 15 from the 15-yard line. Talifero feeling some heat stepped up in the pocket and fired a pass down field to a wide open Grant Goldsmith. Goldsmith did the rest outracing the Giants to glory.
