Week 5 Round-Ups: Mid-Valley Division

VALLE VISTA

Northview 20, Pomona 10

The Vikings (4-2, 2-0) extended their winning streak to three games as they took a half-game lead in the Valle Vista Standings with a win over the Red Devils (1-4, 0-1) Friday night at Pomona High.

Running back Javon Taylor rushed 30 times for 202 yards and scored a touchdown in the first half. Quarterback Victor Garcia scored a touchdown in the second half, putting the Vikings up for good.

Woods Kheenyon provided the only touchdown for the Red Devils, an 80-yard kickoff return to start the second half that tied the game 10-10.

San Dimas 47,Baldwin Park 7

The Saints (5-1, 2-0) took advantages of three turnovers by the Braves (0-6, 0-2) as they opened Valle Vista League play with a win over the Braves Friday night at San Dimas.

Quarterback Josh Avila scored four touchdowns in the win. He threw a 27-yard scoring pass to Cody McNeal halfway through the first and a nine-yard strike to Noah Reep late in the second. Avila also ran for two touchdown in the second half.

Quarterback Michael Moran accounted for the Braves’ lone score, a one-yard quarterback keeper in the second quarter that cut the Saints’ to 13-7 with less than five minutes in the half. He threw 13 of 19 passes for 103 yards in the loss for the Braves.

NONLEAGUE

 South Pasadena 37, Beverly Hills 25

The Tigers (4-1, 0-0) ended their nonleague portion of the season by overcoming a 19-17 halftime lead by the Normans (1-4, 0-0) to hand them their second straight loss against the Mid-Valley Division Friday night at South Pasadena.

The Tigers scored 20 unanswered points in the second half, starting with Nathan Lee’s 50-yard rush to open the Tigers’ first possession in the third quarter, giving them a 24-19 lead, which they never surrendered.

The Tigers will open Rio Hondo League play next week against Monrovia at South Pasadena High.
