DIV 3

Bonita (10-0) at Great Oak (8-2)

Bonita wins the Sierra league and goes 10-0 but still gets sent out to Temecula. Great Oak won the Big -West South League with a 5-0 record. The Wolfpack played a tough schedule with impressive wins over Vista Murrieta and San Marcos. Joseph Lara has come up big for the Bearcats all year. Along with Isaiah Guerrero and Sebastain Vasquez Bonita has a formidable offense. Bearcats turn into road warriors and pulls off the victory.

DIV 5

Vista del Lago (9-1) at Charter Oak (9-1)

Charter Oak lost to Bonita but as a result the Chargers dropped to Division 5 and got a home game. Vista del Lago is also 9-1 and went undefeated in the Ivy League. Dutch Burbidge and company have enough to get it done. The defense makes the key stops as well. Chargers win at home.

DIV 6

Valley View (7-3) at St. Francis (5-5)

St. Francis warmed up down the stretch winning three of its last four to finish tied for second place in the Angelus League. Now the Golden Knights get Valley View who tied for second in the Sun Belt. Lance Micthell’s troops have played a schedule that has prepared them for post season games like this. Expect Mason Maddox to come up big. Golden Knights advance.

DIV 7

Paramount (9-1) at San Dimas (8-2)

San Dimas has had a big year under first year head coach Dylan O’Leary. The Saints only stumbled twice – once to an undefeated Bonita team and the other to a one-loss Alta Loma squad. Jacob Gallegos is a threat running and catching the ball out of the backfield and Kris Saris has done an excellent job of leading the team behind center. The Saints finished second behind Alta Loma in the Valle Vista. Paramount went 9-1 losing only to Lakewood back in August. Quarterback Ocho Quinonez (cool name) has thrown for 2,474 and three touchdowns. San Dimas may fall behind early and will have to battle back all night. But in the end the Saints find a way to victory.

DIV 8

Canyon (6-4) at El Rancho (8-2)

El Rancho is on a heater outscoring its last three opponents 109-0. The Dons went unbeaten in the Metro League. Canyon is 6-4 overall and finished 2-3 in the Kappa League. The Cobras have lost three of their last four. A talented El Rancho team at home is going to be tough to beat. Dons march into the second round.

Harvard-Westlake (6-4) at Rio Hondo Prep (7-3)

Rio Hondo Prep may not be the team it has been the last three years. The Kares did lose three games which for them is a rarity. But the y still went 7-3 and won a league title and now get a home game. The Rio Hondo offensive attack is also more balance now. Matt Montez ran for over 1100 yards and 12 touchdowns, but quarterback Donald Scheffler also threw for 630 yards and nine scores. Harvard-Westlake finished 6-4 overall but 1-4 in the Del Rey League. Rio Hondo Prep will pound it, mix in an occasional pass and eventually wear Harvard-Westlake down. Division 8 is right where the Kares need to be. They get the W.

DIV 10

Royal (9-1) at Nogales (10-0)

Nogales has Gatsbee Gumban and his 1,966 rushing yards should be enough. But wait, there’s more. The Nobles also have JoJo Venegas (1,286 passing yards, 406 rushing) and Tyron Walker (418 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns) and Isaac Guzman (408 yards, 4 touchdowns). And in case you haven’t noticed Nogales went 10-0 in the regular season and dropped over sixty points in two different opponents this year. Royal went 9-1 and finished 4-1 in the Tri Count League. Nogales may have some hurdles to clear on the way to a Division title but they’ll be off and running in this one. Nobles win going away.

DIV 14

Mt. View (3-7) at San Gabriel (5-4)

Mt. View is coming off a forfeit loss to Arroyo last week after several players were suspended for an inappropriate social media post. The Vikings took second behind the Knights in the Conference 12 League with a record of 2-1 but they finished 3-7 overall. San Gabriel tied for first in the Alliance League and ended the regular season with a 5-4 record. The Matadors played Mt. View October 2nd at Viking Stadium and beat them 31-15. The outcome looks to be about the same. Matadors move on.

Used to be that Pioneer was held in high regard by this site; now the team doesn’t even get a mention in this post. Not that I’m complaining, because I’ve never held the green ones in high regard. I’ll fill in for Tim on this one and take Compton Centennial, 32-7, with the Pioneer score coming in garbage time. This won’t put a dent in the Whittier club’s method of operation, because setbacks allow room for all that rising they are known for.
