Week 5 Round-Ups: Southeast Division

HACIENDA

Rowland 42, Diamond Bar 30

The Raiders (4-2, 1-1) erased a 24-14 halftime deficit with a 28-6 second half scoring run as they knocked off the Brahmas (2-4, 1-1) Friday night at Rowland High.

Quarterback Jorge Campos threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns for the Raiders, as they scored on their first two possessions of the second half. The Brahmas regained the lead on a 78-yard kickoff return by Tyler Brown late in the third, one of his three touchdowns for the Brahmas in the loss.

Avery Duffs put the Raiders up for good early in the fourth with an 11-yard touchdown, aprt of his two scores and 139 yards rushing on the night for the Raiders.

Bonita 42, Walnut 7

The Bearcats (3-3, 2-0) claimed the top spot in the Hacienda league as they increased their winning streak to three games with a dominating win over the Mustangs (1-4, 0-1) Friday night at Bonita’s Glenn Davis Stadium.

Quarterback Tanner Diebold missed only three of his 19 pass attempts in throw for a career-high 324 yards and a touchdown, a 41-yard screen pass to Angel Verdugo, while Reggie Turner scored four touchdowns as part of his 170-yard effort.

Cameron Siete provided the Mustangs’ only score of the night, a 50-yard completion to Cody Lepp late in the third quarter to prevent the shutout. Siete connected on 10 of 20 passes for 110 yards, including Lepp’s touchdown.

SUBURBAN

Norwalk 48, Artesia 24

The Lancers (5-1, 1-1) took sole possession of third place in the Suburban league as they rebounded from their  loss to La Mirada by doubling up on the Pioneers (1-5, 0-2) Friday night at Artesia High School.

The Lancer ground game had no trouble getting through the Pioneer defense, as running back Rashaad Penny rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns, two rushing and two receiving. Artesia quarterback Frnacisco Galan threw for 235 yards and threw three touchdowns, including two to Christian Rodriguez in the second half.

The Lancers head to Ron Yary Stadium to take on the Mayfair Monsoons, while Artesia hosts Bellflower next Friday.

NONLEAGUE:

Schurr 10, Whittier 6

Second second quarter proved to be the key as the Spartans (1-4, 0-0) ended their four-game losing streak with a close win over the Cardinals (3-2, 0-0) Friday night at California High.

After the Spartans recovered a Cardinal fumble on the Cards’ 20-yard line, quarterback Sal Chavez connected with Abel Trancoso for a 20-yard score and a 7-0 lead. The Cardinals would answer back on their next possession as Benny Suria faked a punt and threw a pass to Ernest Escareno, who ran 66 yards for the touchdown, however, the extra point was missed giving the Spartans a 7-6 lead.

Ricardo Fonseca closed out the scoring and the half with a 25-yard field goal as time expired in the second. The Cardinals threatened to take the lead early in the fourth quarter but a quarterback run by Matt Acosta was stopped for no gain on fourth down, forcing a turnover. The Cardinals had one more chance late in the game but again, the Spartan defense shut down Acosta, forcing three straight incomplete pases to take the ball on downs with 3:11 left in the game, ending the threat by the Cardinals.

Paramount 42, Troy 35

The Pirates (4-1, 0-0) closed out their nonleague half of the season by handing the Warriors (3-2, 0-0) their second loss to a Southeast Division school as they erased a 35-28 fourth-quarter deficit to win Friday night at Paramount High.

Deonte Dixon and Alex Turner combined for 305 yards and four touchdowns, including Turner’s two first quarter scores and Dixon’s score with 1:31 left in the game that erased a 35-34 Warrior Lead. Lamont Odom threw for 166 yards and threw the other two touchdowns in the win, an 82-yard pass to Tyrell Davis in the fourth and a 13-yard score in the second to the other Dixon brother, Devonte.

Dallas Parent scored all five touchdowns for the Warriors, including a 99-yard kickoff return to open the second half, breaking a 21-21 halftime lead. he rushed for 176 yards on 26 carries for the Warriors.
