(San Dimas)- San Dimas running back Jake Payton rushed for 116 yards and scored on a 55-yard touchdown run late in the first half to lead the Saints to a 24-0 victory over Northview Friday night.
The win improved SD to 9-1 on the season and gave them the Valle Vista League title.
On its second possession San Dimas drove 72 yards on 11-plays before Andrew Espinoza scored on a sweep from 2-yards out. Quarterback Josh Avila on a third and four kept the drive alive with a scramble and 21-yard completion to Noah Reep.
Espinoza’s score came with 23 ticks left on the first quarter clock. With 49 seconds left on the second quarter clock Payton provided the knockout with a 55-yard sprint to the end zone.
In the second half Erick Ware added a 34-yard field goal and Fausto Martinez scored on a 1-yard run to close the scoring.
Offensively Northview struggled most of the night. Javon Taylor was held to 66 yards on 20 carries.
The Vikings best threat came in the first quarter when Daniel Valencia picked off Avila and returned it to the SD 35. They were able to push the ball to the 14 before a personal foul penalty pushed them back. On fourth down Andres Hernandes 46-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Payton.
