Bishop Amat’s Cruz Acosta
By George Hernandez
(La Puente) – I sat down with Bishop Amat big man Cruz Acosta. He is an all-leaguer from the Mission League who has become a top offensive lineman in the area. Acosta is going into his senior season with high hopes for the Lancers.
Q: What’s up kid, how’s it going?
A: Hi George. I’m doing well, thank you.
Q: How does it feel to be recognized as one of the top returning linemen in the area?
A: It feels good to be noticed and represent Bishop Amat in an area with a lot of great athletes
Q: How long have you been playing football, and where did you play before Bishop Amat?
A: I’ve been playing for seven years. I started with the West Covina Bruins when i was 10.
Q: Who do you model your game after?
A: There’s not really a certain someone who I model my game after but I try to go out there and play to the standard that Bishop Amat is known to play at.
Q: How would your teammates and coaches describe you?
A: I think they appreciate my determination for our team and the heart that not only me but all my teammates play with as well
Q: What is your goal for the team this upcoming season?
A: To be playing in December.
Q: What is the biggest lesson you have learned from football so far?
A: To trust the process with tough situations and that God puts me through battles he knows I can push through and over come.
Q: How do you handle the pressure of playing in high-stakes games?
A: Staying focused on our game-plans that we made during the week and taking all that adrenaline and using it on each play.
Q: I know you’re only a junior but what are you goals for after high school. Do you want to keep playing?
A: If the opportunity arises I would love to continue to play football.
Q: Anything else you would like to say or want us to know?
A: Good luck to all the schools out there on this upcoming season. I want to thank the whole organization of Bishop Amat, from coaches to teachers, teammates, and also my family and friends. Thank you as well George. Looking forward to a great Spring and senior season.
