Kick it!

Justin Upton goes from Arizona to Atlanta…Okay…

Interesting response to yesterday’s column about JV football being played in February. The idea leads in our poll, but no one in the comments section has made a case for it.

We’ve interviewed a lot of players over the years, but Monrovia’s Mason Bryant was one of the few that caused us to look at each other in the office afterwards and say: “We’ll all be working for that guy some day.”

Impressive dude…very happy for him and his family. Go Penn.

Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell says he wants to attempt a comeback to the NFL…My first thought was he must have blown through that 32-million guaranteed pretty fast.

I got off the couch Sunday and said in disgust, “Doggonegit…there’s no more football.” At which point my 18 year old daughter made this comment. “Don’t worry Dad, you still got the Pro Bowl.” She then proceeded to let out a sarcastic laugh.

You know the Pro Bowl sucks when your 18 year old daughter messes with you about it.

If Manti Te’o wanted to turn all the pressure around on everyone coming down on him, he should have taken the escape clause Katie Couric offered him in their interview. When she asked him if he was gay, he should have said yes.

You want a name? You want Bogan?…Well I can’t give you Steve Bogan, but I can give you another name to think about if your team plays in the Mid-Valley Division. Windward left tackle Roy Hemsley was first team Alpha League as a sophomore in 2012. Kind of on the small side though at 6-6, 295 pounds. He has arms that seem to stretch from here to Boulder.

Did you see besides the NFL the family of Junior Seau has also named Riddell, the company that makes the helmets, in its lawsuit. They are asserting the helmets were unsafe.

When you play 20 years in the NFL at linebacker and throw yourself around like test car dummy, nothing will keep you safe.

“If I can feel some dizziness, I know that guy is feeling double (that).” A direct quote from Junior Seau about how hard he hits in an NFL Films video from 1993 that is mentioned in the suit.

Grief is understandable, but greed of this kind is deplorable. If they go to trial, and they lose, the Seaus and their lawyer(s) should be forced to pay damages to all the companies/persons they impugned with this lawsuit.

No one, repeat no one, forced Seau or anybody else to play in the NFL.

Has the NFL done a lousy job with its former players? Of course they have, but so has the NFL Players Union.

The Dude abides…
