Pasadena) – Pasadena scored 42 points in the second half after a slow start to finish off Muir 62-53 Thursday night in the regular season finale at The Dog House. Andre Spight, Jeffrey McClendon and Perris Hicks all scored in double figures to lead the Bulldogs.
Pasadena struggled in the first two quarters and went into halftime down 23-20. But the Dogs turned it on in the third and quickly erased the deficit. Perris Hicks scored the first seven points in the quarter and tossed in 11 of Pasadena’s 22 third quarter points. Hicks scored 16 overall
Spight and McClendon also knocked in threes as Pasadena outsscored Muir 22-14 in the quarter. The two tied for team scoring leaders with 17 apiece. The Bulldogs took a 42-37 lead after three and made it stand up in the fourth.
Muir made Pasadena earn it in the final quarter sending the Dogs to the line 15 times, but PHS responded by hitting ten free throws. Brandon Jolley was four for four from the stripe in the fourth quarter and finised with eight points after sitting out the first half.
The Mustangs tried to keep pace behind Jelani Mitchell (18) and Taturs Mayberry (14) but once they relinquished the lead they never got it back. Nine of Mitchell’s 18 came in the third quarter and Mayberry scored all eight of Muir’s points in the first quarter.
Pasadena swept the season series with Muir, won the Pacific League title with a 13-1 record and went 20-5 overall. The Dogs are hoping to turn that momentum into a long playoff run. Muir took third in league behind Crescenta Valley at 9-5 and went 16-12 on the season. The Mustangs are also looking forward to the post season under first year coach Simaine Stewart.
