Baseball Weekend Roundups: Baldwin Park, Mt. View Win

(Saturday 3/30) Glendora 5, San Dimas 0 — Eric Flores earned the pitching win going four innings and change, while Dylan Morrill and Billy Sanford closed out to cement a team effort complete game shutout for Glendora in a victory over tournament co-host San Dimas to start the Apache Baseball Invitational.
Both Flores and Sanford helped their own cause during the game at bat, as each went 2 for 3 with two RBI’s to lead the Tartans.
San Dimas had multiple opportunities, but couldn’t find itself a breakthrough hit, leaving runners stranded in scoring position over the final five innings – four times abandoning runners on third. The Saints were led at bat by Andrew Espinoza (2-4, double, SB) and Josh Avila (2-3, double).
(Friday 3/29) Baldwin Park 5, San Dimas 2 (10 innings) — Bernardo Flores blasts a three run walkoff home run in the bottom of the 10th to give Baldwin Park a crucial 5-2 victory in Valle Vista league play, and payback, after losing at San Dimas on Thursday.
The Braves pitching staff, led by Ben Fonseca (six K’s) who, lasting eight innings, bore eight hits only to exit it all with two unearned runs, and Jordan Palacio, who pitched the 9th and 10th and got the win in relief, combined for nine shutout innings on the Saints.
(Friday 3/29) Mountain View 14, Rosemead 8 — It seemed as if every time Mountain View batted one up the outfield, the ball found a comfortable gap to be driven on and through.
Mountain View controlled the tempo en masse this game, opened up an insurmountable lead, and withstood a six run rally by the Panthers in the sixth before winning 14-8 to take over sole possession of first place in MVL play at the end of round one.
John Correa had a phenomenal day with three doubles and a home run for the Vikings.
The Panthers’ Steven San Miguel (3-3, three RBI’s) added his fourth home run of the season on a two run blast over the right center fence down the San Gabriel River.
(Thursday 3/28) Diamond Bar 4, Carter 0 — Zeph Walters struck out 10 and pitched a perfect game for the Brahmas.
(Thursday 3/28) St Francis 3, Bishop Amat 2 (8 innings) — Golden Knight head coach Aaron Milam may have finally found the missing formula that’s been sought amongst a team that has largely struggled this season and had come into this game on a seven game skid and as heavy underdogs against perennial power Bishop Amat.
The answers were proven as Joey Steele, a former out-of-the bullpen pitcher given his first start, dealt seven strong innings in a no-decision where he gave up three hits, two runs (one earned), struck out 11 batters, and sat down the minimum 3 five times.
Most certainly not to be forgotten was the first varsity appearance of former Arcadia PONY (Braves) standout John Bicos, who started as the third baseman and came through successfully in the bottom of the eighth with a walkoff single up the middle in leading St Francis to the upset victory. Bishop Amat was no-hit over its last five innings at the plate.
Kevin Baker sent it jnto extra innings buzzing a base hit past short that delivered Sean Garcia. Anders Dersley Schraer put the Golden Knights on the scoreboard first with a two out single to pick up Andres Kim in the opening stanza.
