1. USC HC Lane Kiffin says he plans to play both Max Wittek and Cody Kessler Thursday in the opener against Hawaii.

2. Matt Leinart signs with the Buffalo Bills.

3. Travis Wood beats Clayton Kershaw and the Cubs beat the Dodgers 3-2 Tuesday night.

4. Maryland point guard Pe’Shon Howard transfers to USC and is eligible to play this season.

5. Veteran wide receiver Donte Stallworth was cut by the Washington Redskins.

6. Pittsburgh acquires outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck from the Mets. The Pirates are attempting to make the postseason for the first time since 1992.
