(El Monte) – Christian Hacegaba ran for 153 yards and a touchdown threw for 104 yards and two scores to lead Los Altos to a 28-21 win over Arroyo Friday night at B.L. Bergstrom Stadium.
Hacegaba had to be at his best to outduel Arroyo quarterback Nathan Coto who passed for 280 yards and two touchdowns.
***Arroyo led 14-13 at halftime after Jose Valdivia hauled in an eight yard touchdown pass from Coto with 1:37 left in the first half.
***Hacegaba had 15 carries on the night. The biggest was a 70 yard run with 20 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Conquerors a 13-7 advantage.
***Turnovers played a big part in the contest. Los Altos fumbled the ball twice in the red zone including a fumble by Tevita Sina that was recovered by Arroyo defensive back Sonny Gonzalez in the end zone in the fourth quarter. Coto was intercepted by Estuardo Marcos.
***With the score tied at 21 Yahshua returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown in what proved to be the game winner.
***The Knights got the ball with 3:38 left in the contest and drove down to the Los Altos 11. But on fourth and ten with 29 seconds left Coto was sacked and the Conqs ran out the clock.
***Arroyo receiver Nico Lozano had three catches for 189 yards that included an 84 yard touchdown reception from Coto that tied the game at 21 in the third quarter.
***Matt Hayashi complemented Hacegaba for Los Altos with 12 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. Randy Amezcua was Arroyo’s leading ground gainer with 62 yards on 17 carries.
***There was an empty beach chair on the Arroyo sideline in memory of Papa Singiser who passed away in December.
***We toughned up when it mattered most. We really dug down deep when everything was on the line. Jim (Arroyo HC Singiser) has some tough kids over there. I think they matched us physically,” said Los Altos HC Dale Ziola.
***I was pleased with our effort. But on a couple of possessions we came up empty. Against a team like that you can’t afford to give up possessions,” Singiser said.
***Los Altos hosts San Dimas next week while Arroyo faces Temple City in the Mid Valley Classic at home.
