Alemany (1-0) at Muir (1-0)
Last Year: Alemany 49-12
The Mustangs always like to schedule up in non league. Unfortunately this is one of those games that they’ll pay for it. Alemany beat a strong Los Osos team last week 30-7 while Muir struggled to beat Salesian. It will be good for Muir in the long run but Friday night it’s all Alemany.

Temple City (0-1) at Arroyo (0-1) – The Mid Valley Classic
Last Year: Arroyo 21-0
Arroyo looked pretty good in a loss to Los Altos last week. The Knights made some plays offensively but more importantly they were physical. The Rams? Well, they were not. Yes, Simi Valley is better than we thought but 55-2 is hard to swallow. TC will have a tough time covering Nico Lozano. He’s tough to catch. Just ask Los Altos. Nathan Coto is a year older and a year wiser. Knights secure the Classic.

Bonita (1-0) at South Hills (1-0) at Covina District Field
Last Year: South Hills 14-0
The Huskies and the Bearcats were both impressive in big Zero Week victories. Bonita was fast and quick especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Cats will need to be good again to hold down Garrett Fonseca who threw for 184 yards last week for South Hills on an efficient 10 of 13 passing. Jake Payton makes a huge difference for Bonita but Tanner Diebold and Jacob Karim are solid as well. Then of couse there’s a monster named Christian McQueen on defense. This one’s hard to call. Bonita will battle but South Hills should have enough to prevail.
South Hills 24 Bonita 21
Bell Gardens (0-0) at Burbank (0-0) at Burroughs
Nice opening match up for both teams. Bell Gardens gets the Geoff Ackerman era but it might be a little too much to ask to make it a successful debut. Charles Ontiveros and company have their work cut out against a Burbank squad featuring the likes of Ryan Meredith, James Williams and Gary Clements. The Lancers are tough and can play with anyone and they’ll do it again. But in the end Burbank will have too much. Burbank comes out on top.
Burbank 30 Bell Gardens 21
Ayala (1-0) at Monrovia (0-0)
Last Year: Ayala 16-15
Monrovia came out a little flat last year and ended up paying for it when Ayala edged the Cats by one. It’s hard to imagine that happening to a Ryan Maddox coached team two years in a row. M-Town lost a lot of players but make no mistake the Wildcats are still loaded and favored to win the Mid-Valley title. A win over Ayala would be a good start. The Bulldogs are coming off a 42-23 win over El Dorado. Monrovia is off and running.
Monrovia 23 Ayala 16
Norwalk (1-0) at Diamond Bar (1-0)
Last Year: Norwalk 52-38
Diamond Bar’s athletes were on display last week in a 44-10 rout of Montebello. The Brahmas showed us speed and the ability to make big plays. That won’t be so easy against a team like Norwalk. The Lancers are big and physical and they also have a solid running back in Rashaad Penny. D-Bar will again make some big plays and might scare the Lancers occasionally but in the end Norwalk’s strength will be too much. Lancers improve to 2-0.

El Rancho (1-0) at Diamond Ranch (1-0)
Last Year: Diamond Ranch 56-34
The Panthers will be pumped for the team’s first ever game on the Diamond Ranch campus. HC Roddy Layton, who always finds ways to get his troops motivated, now has another reason to light a fire under his boys. Both teams are coming off of victories. Diamond Ranch took out Chino while El Rancho mauled Marina. The home field debut and three year quarterback starter Xavier Beltran will be enough for DR. Panthers get it done.
Diamond Ranch 34 El Rancho 14
Duarte (1-0) at San Marino (0-0)
Nice win for the Falcons last week. A lot of people were surprised that Duarte was able to knock off a solid Village Christian team. San Marino lost several key players from last year’s 10-2 team. The players might be gone but Coach Mike Hobbie is back and does a great job keeping the Titans in the mix. Duarte has some big play guys that could give the Titans fits. It will go down to the fourth quarter but San Marino makes the players when it matters. Titans win it.
San Marino 21 Duarte 17
La Habra (1-0) at La Mirada (0-1)
Last Year: La Mirada 45-27
If the Matadores lose this game it’s not panic time in La Mirada but with all the D-1 offers and the ink the Mats have received, an 0-2 start would be frustrating. Both teams are coming off games at the opposite end of the spectrum. La Habra blew out El Toro 26-3 while La Mirada was getting toasted by Tesoro 43-14. La Mirada handled La Habra last year on the road and should do the same at home. With all the talent they have I can’t see Mike Moschetti’s team getting beat up again. La Mirada rebounds with a big win.
La Mirada 35 La Habra 21
San Dimas (0-1) at Los Altos (1-0)
Last week San Dimas had trouble running the ball against a fast, quick Bonita team. When the running game was shut down, the Saints were forced to pass the ball and that’s not San Dimas’ game. Los Altos is pretty big up front and likes the physical play. If the Conquerors slow down the running attack again it could be a long night for San Dimas. Los Altos not only has the big boys like David Tolmachoff and crew but also features the skill players as well. Christian Hacegaba, Trevor Virnala, and Marcos Estuardo can make you pay. Have you seen Yahshua Haith? His punt return for a touchdown last week broke Arroyo’s back. San Dimas will be fine in league but after Friday night, the Saints will be 0-2.
Los Altos 31 San Dimas 14
