1.) Mike Napoli goes 3-4 to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 4-3 victory against Anibal Sanchez and the Detroit Tigers in Game Five of the ALCS. The Red Sox lead the series 3-2.

2.) Anze Kopitar scores the game-winning goal in a shootout to boost the Los Angeles Kings over the Nashville Predators, 2-1.

3.) Thursday Night Football: The Seattle Seahawks improve to a franchise-best 6-1 record with the 34-22 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Russell Wilson went 18-29 for 235 yards and three TDs.

4.) TONIGHT: St. Louis Cardinals @ Los Angeles Dodgers, 5:30 PT. Clayton Kershaw will start against Michael Wacha as the Dodgers fight to stay alive; the Cardinals lead the series 3-2.

5.) On this day in 1969, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then known as Lew Alcindor) made his NBA debut with the Milwaukee Bucks.

6.) The Brooklyn Nets retire Jason Kidd’s #5 jersey.

9.) On this day in 1977 the New York Yankees win the World Series and Reggie Jackson hits three home runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers, in Game Six, off three different pitchers. This tied Babe Ruth’s record of home runs hit in a World Series game.

10. On this day in 1974, Nate Thurmond became the first player to record a quadruple double. In his first game as a Chicago Bull Thurmond’s line read: 22 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, and 12 blocks.
