Adam Carrasco and La Mirada desperately need a win over undefeated Norwalk

All Kick-Offs are 7:00 PM unless otherwise noted

Friday November 1

Suburban League

Norwalk (8-0) at La Mirada (3-5)

Last Year: La Mirada 29-23

This looked like a great game…eight weeks ago. Now the luster has come off. La Mirada has lost five games (one in league) and Norwalk has run over everything in its path. Also quarterback Kevin Dillman is out for the year with an ACL injury for La Mirada. Norwalk remains unbeaten.

Norwalk 35 La Mirada 20

San Gabriel Valley League

Paramount (5-3) at Downey (5-3)

Last Year: Paramount 21-17

Downey has been dominant in league but this will be a test. Paramount did fall to Dominguez but a win over the Vikings would put them right back in the thick of things. The Pirates make it close but with Jorge Reyna and company, Downey gets it done.

Downey 31 Paramount 14

Olympic League

Whittier Christian (5-3) at Maranatha (6-2)

Last Year: Whittier Christian 24-14

Interesting match up. Whittier Christian has been running the ball with Nick Watase but the defense has had trouble stopping people at times. Last week the Heralds only beat Heritage Christian by seven. Maranatha beat the Knights by four touchdowns. Eli Snyder and the Minutemen have a potent offense. The defense should do enough.

Maranatha 35 Whittier Christian 31

Mission Valley League

Rosemead (7-1) at Gabrielino (6-2)

Last Year: Gabrielino 13-7

Has Gabrielino been a surprise? Yes. Will the Eagles make the post season? Yes. Will they beat Rosemead? No. The Panthers have a running attack (Patrick Lopez, Alec Zavala) and a passing attack (Steven Nava) and the defense seems to be getting better very week. Michael Sahagun is a beast (monster, etc.) on both sides of the ball. Rosemead wins going away.

Rosemead 28 Gabrielino 13

Pacific League

Muir (7-1) at Crescenta Valley (7-1)

Last Year: Muir 36-0

Maybe the best game of the week. When Muir kicks it into high gear, there’s nobody better. Taeon Mason, Dijon Williams, Marceles Clash, and crew can all make big plays. CV’s offense isn’t too bad itself. Brian Gadsby to Chase Walker is a lethal combination. Expect a lot of points. But also expect Muir to emerge. The Mustangs are just too fast.

Muir 42 Crescenta Valley 34

Montview League

Duarte (4-4) at Bassett (5-3)

Last Year: Duarte 41-30

Who would have thought this would be a big game in week nine? But it is. In fact it’s huge. Bassett is 5-0 in the Montview and trying to keep up the momentum while Duarte at 3-2 is fighting for its playoff life. It just looks like the Olympians year. Almost everybody is healthy and they’ve been on a roll. They’ve scored 82 points in the last two weeks. Duarte is explosive and there could be several lead changes. Bassett wins it in the fourth.

Bassett 30 Duarte 27

Valle Vista League

Northview (6-2) at Baldwin Park (6-2)

Last Year: Northview 35-0

Plain and simple. Both teams need the win desperately. Third place in the Valle Vista and a playoff berth is on the line. Both teams have lost to San Dimas and Pomona. The difference is Baldwin Park has allowed 131 points in those two defeats. Northview’s defense has been stout. At times BP’s resembles a bull fighter- Ole! The Vikings D stands tall; the O scores enough.

Northview 24 Baldwin Park 17

Hacienda League

Los Altos (7-1) at Bonita (5-3)

Last Year: Bonita 35-31

Los Altos doesn’t look like a team ready for a fall. The Diamond Ranch loss four weeks ago just made the Conquerors mad. Bonita on the other hand has been all over the place- a loss to Diamond Bar here, a defeat to West Covina there…Los Altos is getting better down the stretch, ready for a possible deep post season run. Conqs win.

Los Altos 27 Bonita 20

Del Rio League

Santa Fe (5-3) at El Rancho (5-3)

Last Year: Santa Fe 44-43

Santa Fe with everybody healthy should win. Santa Fe with a few key people banged up? Maybe not. El Rancho got the win it needed last week against Cal. Now the Dons are looking for more. Santa Fe got hammered by La Serna and struggled to beat Whittier. A second place Del Rio finish would be huge for ER. El Rancho wins a dogfight.

El Rancho 24 Santa Fe 21

Rio Hondo League

Temple City (3-5) at San Marino (7-1)

Last Year: San Marino 58-0

If Temple City could get the running game going and force a couple of turnovers…if the Rams could slow down the game and make a big play…nah! Who are we kidding? San Marino rolls.

San Marino 41 Temple City 10
