All Kick-Offs are 7:00 PM unless otherwise noted

Thursday November 7

Del Rio League

El Rancho (6-3) at La Serna (7-2)

Last Year: La Serna 67-33

It’s a chance for El Rancho to win the league title. Whoever thought we would be writing that sentence?    The Dons got in the playoffs and now possible league champs? The only problem is they have to get past La Serna. That’s a huge mountain to climb. The Lancers haven’t been tested in the Del Rio. For the Dons to win, they’ll have to get an early score, play solid defense and force a couple of turnovers. I think they can compete…for awhile. In the second half the Lancers will do what the Lancers do. Frankie Palmer and La Serna pull away.

La Serna 35 El Rancho 21

Hacienda League

Bonita (6-3) at Diamond Ranch (8-1)

Last Year: Diamond Ranch 34-31

Bonita needs the victory to secure a playoff spot. D-Ranch is in but the last thing the Panthers want to do is go into the playoffs with a loss. Other than the Rowland game when Diamond Ranch wasn’t at full strength, the Panthers have been dominant. D-Ranch goes unbeaten in league.

Diamond Ranch 34 Bonita 24

West Covina (5-4) at Los Altos (7-2)

Last Year: Los Altos 17-14

The Bulldogs have gotten back on track in league after a slow start. Los Altos had a setback last week against Bonita and could use a win here to get in. Both teams have two league losses so a win (or loss) for either is huge. West Covina has had trouble stopping the run at times and Los Altos does it pretty well with Estuardo Marcos. That and home field should be enough. Conqs win it in fourth quarter.

Los Altos 27 West Covina 20

Friday November 8

Mission Valley League Arroyo (8-1) at Rosemead (8-1)

Last Year: Arroyo 21-10

The Panthers might be the most surprising team in the valley this year. People say they haven’t beat anybody but they have beat everyone on their schedule except Irvine. The Knights meanwhile are running over everybody in their path. They’ve scored over 40 points a game in seven of their eight wins. Rosemead’s defense isn’t bad but it will have trouble stopping Arroyo’s high powered O. Arroyo can throw and run. Arroyo stays perfect in the MVL.

Pacific League

Burbank (7-2) at Burroughs (6-3)

Last Year: Burbank 37-14

Burbank’s two league losses are still stinging- a one point OT loss to Crescenta Valley and a seven point defeat to frontrunner Muir. Burroughs is quietly staying in the hunt. The Indians have only one Pacific League loss and a win here would give them a nice first round draw. Burroughs stays close but in the end James William and the Bulldogs are too much. Burbank comes out on top.

Burbank 38 Burroughs 27

Montview League

Azusa (7-2) at Bassett (5-4)

Last Year: Azusa 23-0

Azusa is looking to run the Montview League table while the Olympians are hoping to knock the Aztecs off and declare a league title (or at least a share.) Basset is little banged up. Last week quarterback Nicolas Colmenero left with an injury. The Aztecs have met every Montview challenge so far. They should rise up again. Azusa and Joe Scherf find a way.

Azusa 28 Bassett 17

Valle Vista League

Pomona (9-0) at San Dimas (5-4)

Last Year: San Dimas 49-14

Pomona finally gets its shot. The Red Devils perfect run has been amazing. Naysayers thought it would end with Covina- no, Northview – no, Baldwin Park – nope. Now they get the bully on the block in San Dimas. Pomona is physical and has athletes. San Dimas can run the ball like nobody’s business. Nobody has come close to the Saints in the Valle Vista. Pomona comes close but no cigar. Saints win their sixth straight.

San Dimas 35 Pomona 28

Almont League

Schurr (5-4) at Montebello (6-3)

Last Year: Montebello 28-7

The battle for the Almont has finally here. Once both teams got by Bell Gardens everybody had their eyes on this one. It’s hard to separate the two. Both teams blew out Alhambra, San Gabriel and Keppel. Schurr shut out BG 10-0 while the Oilers beat the Lancers 29-7. Both defenses have been pretty stout at times. Offensively both teams can run the ball but Montebello is a little more balanced. Isaac Mendibles has rushed for over 1500 yards and Carlos China has thrown for close to 900. It should be a defensive battle but Montebello’s offense gets the nod. Oilers win the Almont.

Montebello 20 Schurr 13

Rio Hondo League

Monrovia (8-1) at San Marino (8-1)

Last Year: Monrovia 21-16

This will be the first time Monrovia has been tested in five weeks. The Wildcats haven’t allowed a point in league while rolling up unbelievably big numbers. One thing’s for sure. The Titans will score. But can they score enough? Monrovia is deep on both sides of the ball. Offensively the Cats can run and pass when they need to. San Marino might hang around for awhile but Monrovia ultimately gets it done. M-Town hasn’t lost a league game since 2008.

Monrovia 34 San Marino 17

San Gabriel Valley League

Downey (5-4) at Dominguez (7-2)

Last Year: Downey 28-12

A lot of chatter on the boards this week about Downey and specifically the coaching staff. Am I mistaken or did the Vikings just win a CIF Southeast Division title last year? Some schools have been waiting 30 years for that. Get off the coaching staff. The Vikings will be fine. They bounce back this week, knock off Dominguez and go in to the playoffs as the second seed. Who wants to play them in the first round?

Downey 24 Dominguez 17
