(Rosemead) – Rosemead jumped out to a 33-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 47-22 win over Mt. View Thursday night in Mission Valley League action.
Mt. View tried to get back in the game in the second half by recovering two onside kicks and breaking off two long touchdown runs but the deficit was too much for the Vikings to overcome.
Rosemead scored on its first drive of the game as Nico Banuelos busted off a 39-yard touchdown run. Ricky Cervantes then intercepted Mt. View quarterback Juan Villarreal on the next series and returned it to the Mt. View five-yard line. Frank Weisbrod scored on the next play on a five-yard keeper. The Panthers failed to convert on both two-point conversions and were up 12-0 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter Dylan Moreno got loose for a 57-yard touchdown jaunt. This time Bryan Aviles booted the extra point.
The Panthers then pieced together a five-pay, 78-yard drive, that was helped by a couple of Vikings penalties, that culminated with a one-yard blast by Banuelos for a 26-0 lead.

A Banuelos interception set up another Rosemead score just before halftime as the pick left the Panthers at the Mt. View 29. Two plays later Weisbrod hit Myles Lugo over the middle for a 30-yard touchdown strike with 29 seconds left in the half. Rosemead took the 33-0 advantage into the break.
When David Estrada took a pass from Weisbrod and scooted 57 yards for a score with just over nine minutes left in the third quarter to put Rosemead up 40-0 everybody thought it was over. And they were right, it was. However the Vikes did make some noise.
Xavier Span went through the Rosemead defense for a 52-yard touchdown with 1:01 left in the third quarter.
After the Vikes recovered an onside kick Span score again on a three-yard run to cap a nine-play drive to make it 40-14 early in the fourth.
Rosemead answered with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Weisbrod to Ivan Godina.
Ricky Gutierrez broke some tackles and raced 61 yards to paydirt for the Viking final score of the night.

For Mt. View Gutierrez rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown and Span ran for 88 yard and two scores.
Weisbrod threw for 283 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for one to lead the Rosemead offense. Lugo caught 7 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown and Godina had two catches for 78 yards and a score.
Banuelos carried the ground game with 74 yards and two touchdowns.
Rosemead improved to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the MVL with the victory. Mt. View fell to 3-4 and 0-2 in league.
Is it finding stride or facing easier level of competition????
Rosemead has found their stride. Definitely looking like the only threat to Arroyo this season.
