(San Marino) – San Marino took advantage of five Arroyo turnovers and went on to beat the Knights 26-6 Friday night at San Marino.
Ther were eight turnovers in all as both teams had trouble taking care of the football. But despite several miscues the Knights were still within striking distance in the fourth quarter down 19-6. But Nathan Yarahmadi put the game away as he picked off a pass and rumbled 37 yards for a touchdown to make it 26-6 with 5:26 left to play. It was Yarahmadi’s second pick of the of the night and this one was a back breaker.

It was the third interception of the night for the Titans as well and they also forced two fumbles.
Neither team scored in the first quarter but San Marino broke through early on the second. Brady Beck hit Mikey Yessaian for 62 yards down to the Arroyo five-yard line. From there Coleman Mourning pounded it in for a 6-0 lead. The extra point attempt was blocked.
The Titans made it 12-0 less than two minutes later when after an Arroyo turnover Sid Danenhauer hauled in a five-yard TD pass from Beck. San Marino went for two but was stopped short.
Arroyo finally got on the board with 1:37 left in the first half when Kurt Dominguez took a quick toss and scampered in from seven yards out. keeping with the theme of the night, the Knights also missed the extra point. San Marino took the 12-6 lead into the half.
Early in the third quarter San Marino marched 62 yards on six plays. Danenhauer grabbed a 20-yard touchdown pass from Beck in the corner of the endzone one This time the kick was good and the Titans were up 19-6.
The score stayed that way until Yarahmadi’s pick six in the fourth.
Arroyo could never find a rhythm all night offensively. Joe Reyes and Dillen Seguin both played played quarterback for the Knights sometimes alternating series. But they were both bit by the interception bug and the Knights turned the ball over on fumbles on their first two possessions of the second half.
They couldn’t establish a running attack either although Reyes did rush for 51 yards on 13 carries. For San Marino Beck threw for 127 yards and two touchdowns but also threw two picks. Danenhauer had three receptions for 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Arroyo, which fell to Kaiser last week, is still searching for its first win this year falling to 0-2. San Marino improved to 2-0 with the victory.
Great observation but the teams that are good year in and year out are also possibly being punished. Think of Arroyo from 2000 to 2018. Great teams. Zero shot at wining CIF. They had good teams recently and got placed in D9. Again, no shot at winning CIF. Now that they don’t really have good teams they have a better chance. Last year semis. They could do it again if they keep being placed in D12.
A question. Is bad football more enjoyable because you only play equally terrible teams? Is it fair to punish a team that had a once in ten years great season to have to play in a division that they have no shot at winning even in round one?
You guys know what’s crazy? Arroyo not getting the horses they used to get will help them in CIF. They’re gonna lose a bunch of non league games and it’s gonna place then in a lower division. Every now and then they might get a solid group and it’ll put them in a good spot to win CIF. Look what happened last year. They went to the semis because they were terrible in preseason. Arroyo will never had teams as good as they did back in the day but they might have a better shot at winning CIF. The only time they won it they were placed in D12. Should have been in 11 that year.
He can put together a spread offense that works against teams that can’t replicate in
Practice or otherwise execute
There’s plenty of room for that in MVL this year so should be playoff squad
Arroyo is playing decent teams that would be having their way with all the other MVL teams , they will look much better when playing their league friends.
When they gave up 81 and 71 in back to back years in the playoffs? Okay they won league against LP and Azusa both 2 win teams
@KnightOwl
I’m not the smartest guy, but you are wrong. I looked it up. Before they left Bassett they took 1st place and they took 1st at Workman not a football power and those are just recent. Why are you hating on the El Monte staff do you feel the wrath of an Arroyo not dominating any more?
Anonymous I agree MVL runs through the swamp! SEM wins league this year with EM finishing second. SEMs Medina can sling it eagles haven’t had a Qb like this for a minute. Arroyo just doesn’t have the weapons this year
No one said anything bout league or playoffs I said El Monte would beat y’all SEM takes league this year
Obviously, the team is not performing as it did under the greats Singiser and Leonardis. With such a bleak outlook, how best to rally everyone around Johnny Argo? I suggest a slew of bogus indictments.
El Monte head coach can’t win league or a playoff game anywhere he goes. Look at his resume.
Lmao funny 🤣🤣 El Monte beats y’all
Young team in transition. the ship will be corrected. Still taking league!
Good to see you pre game TP. Thanks for all you do in covering HS sports.
