(Hacienda Heights) – Junior running back Dominic Ezeonye rushed 25 times for 259 yards and five touchdowns to power the Wilson Wildcats to a 35-21 victory over the visiting Alhambra Moors last Friday night.
Ezeonye also ran for a two-point conversion which tied the game at 21 early in the fourth quarter, and he ended up scoring all but three of the Wildcats’ points against Alhambra. Seven Wilson ballcarriers combined for 428 yards on the ground, and the Wildcats piled up a total of 517 yards from scrimmage.
The Moors overcame a 13-7 halftime deficit by scoring two touchdowns late in the third quarter to take a 21-13 lead. Those TD’s came on a six-yard run by tailback Halen Tsang and a 32-yard pass from quarterback Bryan Leonard to wide receiver Anthony Rosales.
However, Ezeonye scored on runs of 37, one, and two yards, respectively, in the final quarter to secure the victory for the Wildcats. Alhambra’s offense had only nine plays from scrimmage during the last 12 minutes of the game, as Wilson controlled the ball with its ground attack and used up most of the remaining time.
The Wildcats ran a total of 72 plays, while the Moors managed only 46 plays on offense the entire game.
Leonard, who was plagued by several dropped passes, completed 11 of 31 for 163 yards and two touchdowns for the Moors, but had two throws intercepted by the Wildcats. Alhambra ran the ball for a total of just 74 yards; the Moors’ leading rusher was tailback Julian Venegas Khavari, who carried nine times for 54 yards.
The Wildcats improved their record to 1-1, while the Moors fell to 0-2 on the season.
@ Moor for life: Temper, temper. League play is where it’s really at, but we hope to be an improved team before then.
Our coaches and players are working to fix problems that became evident during the first two games, but the primary issue last week was getting run over (and around) by a Wilson back who could be the next Christian Okoye.
Perhaps you should try tackling Dominic Ezeonye; he’s going to be a major star unless he gets hurt.
This the year BERGSTROM finally gets fired or quits only hope for Alhambra is you got wins against keppel, San Gabriel losses to schurr and toss-up game against Montebello and bell gardens
