(La Verne) – Desmond Every scored 15 points and the defense did the rest as Pasadena beat Roosevelt (Seattle) 44-32 Friday Night at Bonita High School. With the victory the Bulldogs advanced to the Silver Division Finals of the Damien Classic.
The Bulldogs’ defense held Roosevelt to just 14 points in the first half including four points in the second quarter. Pasadena didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard either going into the break with a 23-14 advantage.
After the first quarter ended in a 10-10 tie the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to open the second. Every hit a three pointer and had four points in the quarter and Gavin Hollins-Law knocked one down from distance as well for the nine-point lead.

Every had a big third quarter as he buried two more from beyond the arc. Roosevelt managed to keep pace as Caden Young hit a pair of threes as well. Pasadena’s lead was still nine at 33-24 after three.
Neither team came out blazing in the fourth quarter as both teams went scoreless through the first three minutes. But Pasadena’s Jovan Jester made four big free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. He had eight points in the quarter including a game ending jam as the clock hit zeroes.
It wasn’t pretty but the Bulldogs did enough to get the W.
Jester joined Every in double figures with 10 points, Brandin Carpenter had six, all in the paint, and Hollins-Law added five.
Roosevelt didn’t have one player in double figures. Anthony Washington led the team with eight points. Young, Caden Dollar and Jackson Huntington all had six. Roosevelt struggled offensively throughout the contest. Dollar had a particularly rough night shooting 1 for 13 from the field.
Pasadena will play San Gabriel Academy in the Silver Division Finals of the Damien Classic Saturday night. The Bulldogs improved to 14-1 overall.
