1. Monrovia freshman quarterback Jesse Saucedo completed 12 of 18 for 320 yards and 3 touchdowns in his high school debut Friday night in a 35-7 win over Palmdale.
2. Aidan Birr kicked a 44-yard field goal as time expired as Georgia Tech stunned number 10 Florida State 24-21 Saturday to kick off the college football season.
3. Jake Leones threw for 256 yards and 3 touchdowns and Judah Douglas had 8 catches for 145 yards and 2 TDs and also threw a touchdown pass to lead Temple City to a 41-22 win over Whittier Thursday night.
4. Luke McNulty completed 18 of 27 for 301 yards and 4 touchdowns as Maranatha beat Lakeside 34-26 Thursday night.
5. The Rams lost to the Houston Texans 17-15 Saturday in their final preseason game.
6. The Chargers beat the Dallas Cowboys 26-19 Saturday in their final preseason game.
7. New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit two home runs Sunday in a 10-3 win over the Colorado Rockies to give him 51 for the season. Judge is on a pace to hit 63 for the year.
8. Baltimore Ravens offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris passed away Sunday at the age of 70. D’Alessandris, who has been coaching for 45 years, was the Ravens OL coach since 2017.
9. Shohei Ohtani hit a walk off grand slam to lift the Dodgers to a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Friday night. With the home run Ohtani became the fastest player to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases in a season. Ohtani, who had stolen his 40th base earlier in the game, also became the first Dodger to join the 40-40 club.
10. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was among 12 Charger players that were stuck in an elevator for two hours at the team hotel in Dallas Friday night.
#9 With the offensive numbers he’s putting up, perhaps pitching should be taken off the table. 162 games season is hard enough even for a DH. Let’s not get greedy and take a chance of damaging the package.
