The Chargers filled a big need with their first-round pick in the NFL draft. Initially there was lot of talk about the Chargers taking a tight end with the 22nd pick. But they signed Tyler Conklin in March and the best tight ends remaining, Colston Loveland and Tyler Warren, were off the board after going at number 10 and 14 respectively.
So that left the next glaring need. Jim Harbaugh loves to run the ball and although the Chargers did ink Najee Harris to a one-year deal they still needed another solid back to tote the rock. And there he was at 22 – Omarion Hampton. Last year at North Carolina Hampton rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns. At 6 feet and 220 pounds Hampton has the strength to run defenders over and the speed to run by them. In college he was known for his ability to consistently gain yards while absorbing hits. He gives the Chargers a nice one-two punch with Harris.
In the second round the Chargers took wide receiver Tre Harris out of Ole Miss. The Chargers did bring back Mike Williams but still needed some fire power to complement last year’s leading receiver Ladd McConkey. Harris could fill that bill.
The Chargers finally got a tight end taking Oronde Gadsen II out of Syracuse in the fifth round. Kyle Kennard, an Edge rusher from South Carolina in the fourth round looks like a pick that could pay dividends down the line.

Tre Harris and Oronde Gadsden II were on my board. Harris is really good and Gadsden is a great value pick.
