(Redondo Beach) – The Rio Hondo Prep Kares captured their third consecutive CIF Title Saturday evening, defeating the host Redondo Union Sea Hawks, 29-7, in front of an overflow crowd at Redondo Union High School. The win gives the Kares three titles in three years. They won the Division 9 Title in 2023, the Division 7 Title in 2024, and the Division 5 Title Saturday evening.

Redondo Union got on the board first, scoring on its first possession of the contest when Bo Ausmus fount the end zone on a 99-yard run. The PAT was added by Parker Blevins, making the score 7-0 with 6:31 remaining in the opening quarter. This was the last time the Sea Hawks scored in the contest.

From this point on, it was all Rio Hondo Prep. The Kares did what the Kares do best…run. RHP tied the game on their next possession, when wide receiver Elias Har scored on a 19-yard end around. The PAT was added by Easton Jara, making the score 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Kares added another score in the second period, when Nathaniel Shine scored on a 1-yard blast. Jara added a second PAT, making the score 14-7 as the first half came to an end.

Rio Hondo Prep added a pair of scores in the third quarter. The first came defensively when defensive back Aiden Delgadillo returned an interception 21 yards for a score. The PAT failed making the score 20-7, with 11:22 remaining in the period.

The second touchdown was added by Christian Lee, who crossed the goal line on a 14-yard scamper. The 2-Point PAT attempt fell short, making the score 26-7 as the third quarter came to a close.

The Kares’ final score of the evening came in the final quarter when Jara made good on a 21-yard field goal to increase the lead to 29-7 with 7:11 remaining in the contest.

Defensively, Rio Hondo Prep played stingy, hard-hitting football, that never allowed Redondo Union to get into a rhythm. In addition to the “Pick Six” the Kares’ outside linebacker Troy Soto also intercepted an errant Cole Leinart offering.

Rio Hondo Prep improved to 14-0, 2-0 in the Gold Coast League and the CIF Division 5 Champion. The Kares will now wait and see where and when they will play in the California State Playoffs. Redondo Union finishes the season with an overall record of 9-5, 4-1 in the Pioneer League, and as the CIF Division 5 Runner-Up.

give me a break ? because you definitely need a break ! What have you got against winning? So they pay close attention to their local, and possibly other locations not too far away, to try to recruit ( gain as many very good competitive youth kids as possible) lots of very very good /the best young kids in youth leagues! Why is this so terrible to you? . ” oh they wait in between plays (if that is what you are meaning?) eating up the clock before the next play? Is this what you mean? Why would this strategy be so bad for how they have been winning championships (this time in D5 and beating a very good la serna club) , including CIF championships as they have moved up in divisions and still win? Who are you ( seems you are a ‘self appointed genius) to say ‘they don’t have a winning mentality’? How do they keep winning without winning mentally? i suggest you are way way off when it comes to analyzing winning . I said suggest and not claiming i know more than you because i may not! I can list, but I will not waste my time because not that important, ten or fifteen, maybe twenty private schools football teams that do the exact same thing

@ FBFan: Three straight division championships for Rio Hondo Prep are an amazing feat, but the Temple City Rams were also a juggernaut in the 1970’s and 80’s.

    Coward football lol

Other programs basically do the same thing. Charter Oak, Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, etc. etc. all have the equal chance to get em young and keep them in the program for many years. RHP just does a better job of it.

RHP is not winning D14 anymore. They are a top dog in the SGV. Would love to see them play Amat or Damien. They, however, will never schedule RHP because a win is expected and a loss is disastrous.

Tip your hat. This is the most impressive 3Peat in SGV history.

So all a coach has to do to win 3 straight chmpionships is dont run a play until the clock runs down. You must be a genius like LS Juggernaut.

“It’s absolute coward football because as soon as they have a lead whether it’s 1000-7 or 8-7 they wait for the play clock to run out before they move on.”
With this statement you take the lead for dumbest comment of the year.

It’s called standards, discipline, and strategy. Who do you represent? Schedule RHP and let’s see who wins

The state playoff pairings will be announced this afternoon. These state contests will be held at Buena Park High, Fullerton High, and Saddleback College (in Mission Viejo). It’s possible, but not guaranteed, that SEM will be included in the mix. RHP is a lock, of course, not only for inclusion but for domination. I’m most eager to see how the highest division works out. Will both Bosco and Mater Dei be recalled to action? What about inviting Orange Lutheran, the team that knocked Bosco out of the southern section in round one? We will see.

Give me a break always one hater in the group! 150 kids in total go to Rio Hondo Prep, and about 80 are boys at the school! Enough said!

Cmon really? RHP is recruiting at its finest. They teach these kids the plays at 7 years old and if they didn’t know these plans by 10 they’re out of the RHP cult. Freddy wants to say RHP this RHP that because they won 3 in a row. It’s absolute coward football because as soon as they have a lead whether it’s 1000-7 or 8-7 they wait for the play clock to run out before they move on. Thats not a winners mentality. RHP is just a product of competitive equity. Without it they would still be playing 8 man football

These guys are spooky good. Its like good teams are reduced to garbage when they play Rio. I mean RB scored on their first play from 98 yards and then thats it? C’mon now.

On Max Preps someone reported it 67-0 in favor of Redondo Union.

I was like what? It even has Rio with a loss at 13-1. Wonder how long before they change it.
From T. Peterson: It happens so often I don’t even comment on it anymore.
