Kares’ Rally Beats Falcons

(Arcadia) – Rio Hondo Prep rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score three runs in the third inning and three in the fourth and went on to beat Duarte 8-5 Thursday at Kare Field.

Down by four Yanick Diaz doubled to lead off the bottom of the third for Rio Hondo Prep. Landon Scott reached when a fly ball to left field was misplayed and Diaz took third. Diaz then scored on a passed ball and Scott took third. Scott then scored on a wild pitch. Brayden Vinton was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Julian Rodriguez to get the Kares within one at 4-3.

After Duarte went down in order the Kares came right back with three more in the fourth. Diaz and Scott walked and both advanced on a double steal. Vinton then drove both of them home with a base hit to left field. After a double by Nick Harrington, Vinton scored on a perfectly executed squeeze by Aiden Delgadillo. Rio Hondo Prep took a 6-4 lead.

Duarte got one back in the fifth when Leonel Cardona tripled and came home on an error.

The Kares put it away with two more in the sixth inning. Diaz and Scott again got things started by drawing walks and Vinton followed suit with another free pass to load the bases. Two runs scored when a ground ball to second base was bobbled and then thrown wildly to the plate.

Nathan Harwood then closed out Duarte in the seventh for the win.

The Falcons got one in the second inning and three in the third to take the early lead. Matthew Solis doubled home Michael Dandurand in the second. In the third Marco Valencia was hit by a pitch and Cardona reached on an error. Valencia scored on a wild pitch and Cardona scored on a single by Arian Garcia-Mendoza. A sacrifice fly got the fourth run home.

Rio Hondo Prep then rallied in the next two innings to erase the lead.

Esai Trejos started and worked four innings for Duarte before giving way to Garcia-Mendoza and Brian Garcia to finish up.

For Rio Hondo Prep Rodriguez went three innings and was relieved by Harwood who went the rest of the way.

The Kares improved to 5-4-1 with the victory while the Falcons fell to 5-7.
