Joe Theisman’s injury was bad; Kevin Ware’s was brutal. Tim Krumrie, whose leg snapped in two places in the Super Bowl in 1989, was hard to watch as well. The injury to Indiana’s Paul George in Las Vegas Friday night was the worst I ever saw.

Swaggy P, Booze Cruise, Linsanity, oh yeah and that other guy…the Black Mamba…sound like a playoff team to you? At least they all have nicknames.

I’m hearing a lot of good things out of Covina. They have a quarterback and although Joe Benavidez is not the returning starter he’s looked great in the summer. All of the key skill players other than QB Darren Torres are back for the Colts.

Deshawn Potts graduated, and Miles Bryant transferred to St. Francis. Ryan Maddox retired as did a majority of the coaching staff. With Kurt Scoby also graduating in June Monrovia suddenly had several issues to address.

The vibe I’m getting about the Carmelo Anthony to Lakers deal is not good. I’m hearing that he doesn’t play defense, shoots too much and isn’t the ideal teammate. That’s probably all true, but I say bring him on.

I actually tried to jump on the bandwagon. I tried real hard. With all of the excitement being generated lately about the World Cup I tuned into the game Sunday between the United States and Portugal. Portugal even had a guy I had heard of in Christiano Ronaldo.

The hockey and basketball champions have been determined so that means it’s officially football season. Isn’t it always?

I like covering the high school football all-star games. It’s a chance to see the seniors suit up one last time and maybe for some, the last time. It’s football after all so if there’s game I’m covering it.
