2013 Mid-Valley Newcomer of The Year: Montebello’s Isaac Mendibles

Isaac Mendibles and the Oilers remain tied atop the Almont.

Isaac Mendibles, one slick Oiler!

Montebello HC Pete Gonzalez needed a running back for 2013, and he found one in sophomore Isaac Mendibles.

Mendibles stood out from the get go clearing 100 rushing yards eight times, and 200 rushing yards in four of those for a grand total of 1,775 yards and 19 touchdowns. He added touchdown number with a scoring catch against El Rancho.

With a strong rushing game the Oilers were able to advance to the second round of the CIF playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.

Several players were in this mix. Arroyo’s Randy Amezcua as well as Baldwin Park’s Raymen Barraza. Not unanimous, but the votes were there for Mendibles.
