(South El Monte) – Gabrielino pulled away in the second half and cruised to a 58-43 win over South El Monte Wednesday night in Mission Valley League action.

Gabrielino improved to 5-0 in the MVL and gained sole possession of first place. South El Monte suffered its first league loss dropping to 4-1.

Eli Peters led the way with 23 points for the victorious Eagles including 10 points in the fourth quarter. Grant Kirchoff had 14 in the third quarter and finished with 16 while Bryan Phan dropped  in 13.

***Eduardo Hernandez led South El Monte with 18 points and Alex Ortiz had 10.

***Kirchoff was 7 of 8 from the floor in the third quarter and eight of 11 overall.

***Peters was 5 of 6 from the field in the fourth.

***Gabrielino’s 15 point win over South was the closest any MVL opponent has come to the Eagles.

***Gabrielino improved to 17-3 overall while South El Monte dropped to 10-5.

***Gabrielino’s biggest lead was 18 in the fourth quarter.

***Gabrielino’s biggest quarter was the third when it outscored South 20-14.

***Gabrielino hit just one three pointer in the contest but attempted only three. South El Monte was 3 for 11 from beyond the arc.

***Each team made only three field goals in the second quarter as Gabrielino won the quarter 9-8.

***Next up for Gabrielino is a home game against Rosemead while South El Monte makes the quick trip to Mt. View.
