(La Mirada) – Long time Mayfair head coach Mike Fitch has joined Mike Moschetti’s staff at La Mirada the school confirmed Wednesday. Moschetti returned as the head coach earlier this month after a two-year hiatus.
In Fitch’s 20 plus years at Mayfair his resume included winning 54 consecutive league games, 4 CIF Finals and 2 CIF Championships. Moschetti will continue to fill his staff over the next few weeks.
I played under coach Fitch and coach Lishok. I was a senior on his last whittier team. I was sad to see him leave, and I wished he would have stayed at whittier. But the treatment he received from Whittier parents and administration was horrible, specially from the junior class. I was happy to see him succeed at Mayfair. I even went to see his team play once. La Mirada is lucky to have such a great coach on their sideline.
AGE? check online for Harry Welch that won many CIF CHAmpionships; i think his last was at Santa Margarita in 2013 ; he was in late 60’s
I mean 60 is old which he’s probably closer to 70 but he could still coach these ppl don’t know crap
Guru? you mean 21 years at Mayfair and many at Whittier and Brethren; And he is too old to coach high school football. ? u r not giving him credit for the success he had at all; He has been a Cif champ at least two times and final 4 a few times; 3 years? offf? that is zero to have effect on him losing football knowledge! How do u suggest a coach of over 30 years successfully will forget football in that time. ? And he is an asst not a head coach! U r suggesting Moschetti is not smart to hire him. u r wrong on this . LM is hiring the best he can. R u smarter than Moschetti? I doubt it. I know coaches that been away longer, they may be better after break bcus they miss game. Changes fast? Examples please? The game is football; and kids may change but not game much. He is not that old; maybe sixty?
Hey Klingsbury, join the NFL
For once Swann showed some DELETED…
While we’re on the topic of assistant coaches, the Kliff Kingsbury situation over at Southern Cal needs to be mentioned. The Arizona Cardinals and the New York Jets both asked permission from Lynn Swan to interview Kingsbury for their vacant head coaching jobs. In an unprecedented act, Swan denied them access.
Swan’s move has the potential to severely piss-off Kingsbury, to the point where he just might take one of those pro offers to spite the athletic director. Sure, Kliff would have to make a buyout payment to the university, but reports indicate it is mere pocket change compared to an NFL head coaching salary. We can only imagine how the exit of Kingsbury would sit with the wealthy donors, the ones who are needed to help fund the Coliseum renovation. My guess is that if Kingsbury goes, so does Swan, and so does Helton. The dominoes may soon be falling.
You are to old to coach when you have been away from coaching a team for 3 years or more. Football changes very fast when you are out of practice. Just ask John Gruden. He is too old to coach.
Historical Perspective? oh there are successful coaches in college and pros that are late sixties and early seventies; but wont work in high school? I think Coach Moschetti is a bit smarter than u give him credit for
I will state more of Fitch’s history; I believe, but not positive, that Fitch’s best years were when he, at Mayfair, had the same staff he had at Whittier. Ed Lishok played a major role in the success
From what I seen and have heard around campus is that white and Jude will be joining staff to make a super staff and get all the kids to LM
You’re too old to coach when the game plan has to be delivered to your plot at Forest Lawn. You’re too old to coach when you are encumbered by a headset and a head stone. There’s a million of these; they’re called ‘Rodney Runs’ in tribute to the late great Rodney Dangerfield. Hey guys, Fitch is GREAT, but he’s not yet LATE, so my jokes notwithstanding, I’m eager to see him roll with Moschetti. It’ll be the latest version of the Mike and Mike show.
How old is too old to coach?
from 2004 (coached mayfair before that but I no want to do too much= Fitch stats=79 and 48; 1 final 4 and 1 cif finalist, but his teams won cif at least 1x.
NWO=I don’t claim correctness on my posts, but I respect scientifically proven very good to great coaches (interpreted by statistical data, and before him and after him data) a lot! White was awesome at Buena Park. his stats for super success matched my qualification data. If some school don’t hire him as head coach, it is too bad. Even if they have to wait another 5 months and fill in the retirees subjects lost. I think that is much better than hiring one with no successful head coaching experience at the varsity level
Historical Perspective: Y didn’t you state Mike Fitch’s statistics as Head Coach at Mayfair? Look it up..research…u left out more than half of his scientific results=and they are very, very good. Using whittier alone should be good enough. And AGE? too old? NOT Moschetti is smart enough to take on another winner
From T. Peterson: Got it.
Do you think LM will try to pull Anthony White into the fold? I believe he lives in LM.
Having followed Finch’s exploits as head coach of Whittier during the Truman administration, it’s comforting to see Moschetti embrace a man of maturity as he rounds-out his staff. There’s nothing wrong with taking old help, unless of course it sustains a groin injury and has guaranteed money.
