(Temple City) – Longtime area assistant coach Laron Johnson has been named the new head football coach at Temple City he confirmed Monday.
Johnson is familiar with Temple City and the Rio Hondo League having been an assistant on Mike McFarland’s staff at Temple City before McFarland stepped down after the 2013 season. Johnson also had stops at La Canada for two years and Monrovia for a year.
His most recent stop was at Pasadena where he spent some years on the Bulldogs staff.
“I just got cleared and am working on the staff. I Just started meeting with the kids,” Johnson said.
Johnson takes over for Riley Saxon who resigned in May after four years. The Rams played just one game in the spring due to COVID-19 falling to South Pasadena 35-8.
Sounds like good news bad news..
The good news Mr Johnson is you got the nod as TC head coach.
The Bad News is you are the TC head coach.
Yikes
Note one of the guys I played football with when TC was setting records for consecutive wins and CIF Titles every year, died as a young man. He said he hated that he never beat TC, so he wanted some of his ashes spread on the TC field so he could haunt them.
Looks like it worked. IF I were TC I would get rid of that haunted grass field.
