  1. The U.S. Men’s Basketball team beat France 87-82 to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. 
  2. The U.S. Women’s Basketball team beat Japan 90-75 to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. It is the  seventh straight gold medal for the U.S. Women’s team. 
  3. Allyson Felix became the most decorated track athlete in American history after winning the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meters at the Tokyo Olympics. Felix now has 11 medals overall. 
  4.  “My career started with gold teeth and ended with this gold jacket.” – Edgerrin James in his Hall of Fame induction speech Saturday. 
  5. Jose Montes has been named the new head varsity baseball coach at Alhambra High. Montes served as the assistant coach on the Moors’ JV team last season. He replaces Steve Gewecke, who recently stepped down after leading the varsity to 11 Almont League titles during a 25-year tenure. (Information courtesy of Ron Vrooman). 
  6. Former Florida State legendary head football coach Bobby Bowden passed away at the age of 91.  
  7. Attention coaches: Monrovia is looking for a scrimmage Friday night August 13 at Monrovia. If interested contact head coach Chris Williams. 
  8. Guard Reggie Jackson signed a two-year, $22 million deal to return to the Clippers.   
  9. On this day in 1936 Jesse Owens won a gold medal as part of the U.S. 4 x 100 relay team. It was the fourth gold medal for Owens at the Berlin Olympics. 
  10. Former Penn State/ Rams running back/ 1973 Heisman Trophy winner John Cappelletti turns 69 today.
