(La Puente) – Matt Villasenor was named the new head football coach at Nogales he confirmed Thursday.
Villasenor, who was an assistant at Nogales last year, has also had stops at Sierra Vista as co-head coach and at Bishop Amat as an assistant in 2022.
The Nobles went 5-5 on the field last year but had a record of 2-8 overall after three wins were declared forfeit losses due to ineligible players.
Villasenor takes over for Gus Martinez who stepped down earlier this month after four seasons.

Reason that suspect hires is because of the high percentage of ‘never athletic administrators’ and ADs who were weak coaches and scared of another coach improving program showing previous staffs underachieved

Didn’t know about the swap meet
Nogales always make suspect decisions. It’s the clueless AD, not very sharp. Nogales has a good size student body, a nice stadium, and a swap meet that brings in ample amount of money for the program. It’s pretty hard to screw this up, but time and time again they managed to do it. And he did it again.

He won 3 cif titles Div 6,7 and 13. One as a player, One as an assistant and one as a head coach. He’s only like 35.

Much hyped Sierra Vista squad rolled a bunch of bad teams then gagged in second round of playoffs vs average Loara squad ! He then left program in ruins as they went winless and out scored 374 -34 the next season .
