(Azusa) – Azusa Pacific scored four runs in the first inning and made them stand up the rest of the way in an 8-3 win over Hawaii Hilo Thursday night. The victory completed a sweep of a doubleheader.
In the first inning George Christison walked and Camero Lee unloaded a two-run shot that was last seen traveling over San Dimas. Mikey Easter then singled and after Spencer Rasmussen hit into a fielder’s choice, Cade Marshman singled to left. Carson Collett walked and Omar Lopez shot a base hit to center to drive in two.

The Cougars added another in the second when Christison again led off with a base hit. He eventually came around to score on a couple of walks and a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
Hawaii Hilo tried to get back in it in the third with three of its own. After a couple of walks by APU starter Damian Pasillas, Cody Min doubled to rightfield to drive in two. Mason Cook’s single plated Min. The Vulcans had cut it to 5-3 but that was the last inning that Hawaii scored.
The Cougars scored two more in the fourth inning when Easter tripled and scored on a single by Marshman. after two walks loaded the bases Will Medina walked to force in a run.
Azusa Pacific scored the last run of the night in the sixth when Christison doubled to centerfield to drive in a run.
Pasillas went the first three innings for the Cougars, followed by Joey Frey who threw the next three. Kohl Petersen finished up. APU pitchers combined to strike out nine Hawaii Hilo batters.

The Vulcans also used three pitchers. Eamon Velarde started and lasted just one and two-thirds innings. James Yamasaki and Cody Hirata went the rest of the way.
The Cougars, who got off to a slow start, have now won 10 straight games and improved to 15-15 on the year after the two wins. APU won the first game 10-9 scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
