Thursday October 17
Colony (3-4) at Charter Oak (6-1)
Colony has bounced back in the last couple of weeks with two Sierra League victories. Charter Oak just keeps rolling along. The Charger train won’t be derailed here. Charter Oak gets the win.
Charter Oak 35 Colony 21
Chino (2-5) at South Hills (4-3) (Covina District Field)
Chino suddenly turned it up after five straight losses with two Hacienda League wins. South Hills is also 2-0 in league with tough wins over Diamond Bar and Walnut. Hard one to call. It could go either way. It looks like Chino has found its groove. Cowboys win their third in a row.
Chino 27 South Hills 24
Friday October 18
Chino Hills (5-2) at Damien (5-2)
Chino Hills has been playing good football lately with league wins over Ayala and Etiwanda in the last two weeks. Damien is 2-0 in the Baseline as well and last week the Spartans rallied to beat Upland in an impressive one-point victory. Damien has also knocked off teams like La Serna, Loyola and St. Paul. I don’t see them slipping against Chino Hills. Damien stays perfect in the Baseline.
Damien 34 Chino Hills 24
Thursday October 17
Diamond Bar (0-7) at Los Altos (3-4)
It’s hard to figure out how Diamond Bar is winless. The Brahmas have played a tough schedule, no doubt, but you still think they would have come away with a victory. Believe it or not Diamond Bar could still make the playoffs if it can win its last three games. This is the week the comeback begins. Los Altos gives Diamond Bar all it can handle and might even hold an early lead but the Brahmas get it done in the end. Diamond Bar gets its first.
Diamond Bar 24 Los Altos 21
Friday October 18
El Monte (3-4) at Arroyo (4-3)
That loss to South El Monte hurt last week. The Lions could have made a statement with a win over the Eagles or even if they made it close. But South El Monte pulled away for a 21-point victory. El Monte is looking to get back on track this week in a game that could decide second place in the Mission Valley League. The Knights struggled to beat Gabrielino last week and will need to be careful against a hungry El Monte team. The Lions will run the ball, make some key stops and pull out a win late.
El Monte 31 Arroyo 27
Thursday October 17
Monrovia (6-1) at South Pasadena (5-2)
Monrovia took care of San Marino and Temple City. The Wildcats will also take care of South Pasadena. The real test is going to be October 25th against La Canada. Monrovia gets started early and never relinquishes the lead. Cats improve to 3-0 in the Rio Hondo.
Monrovia 38 South Pasadena 17
Friday October 18
Baldwin Park (4-3) at San Dimas (5-2)
The Braves have surprised a few people winning their first two league games over Alta Loma and West Covina. They have won four straight overall after starting the season 0-3. However San Dimas is a different animal. The Saints lost last week to a strong Northview team but when the offense is hitting on all cylinders they are hard to beat. San Dimas has scored over 40 points in four different games this year. The Saints are the second-best team in the Valle Vista.
San Dimas 42 Baldwin Park 14
La Mirada (2-5) at Mayfair (5-2) (Bellflower)
It’s been a rough year for La Mirada. The Matadores have won a couple of games but when they play a team that tests them they have fallen short. Mayfair will test them. The Monsoons still have their sights set on a Gateway League title. They’re 2-0 in league and they will face Downey in Week 10 in a showdown. Mayfair will have its way with La Mirada. The Soons will score early and often. Mayfair rolls.
Mayfair 41 La Mirada 21

I agree. It was a very good battle in that first half. But our Lancers made some great adjustments at halftime and it was evident in the second half.
Very excited for our match up against Schurr in two weeks. But we need to keep it rolling against Keppel.
Monrovia school board please explain how did the head football coach get hired? What’s his resume hes out coached every game. The coaching staff he assembled is not ready for varsity football at Monrovia. The city section you hide and just win with talent no coaching required. As a alumni it’s embarrassing to see players have no control on the side lines. I’m hearing he’s blaming the community for not having a youth football league. We’ll coach monrovia hasn’t had a youth tackle program in over 40yrs that’s not the problem it’s you. Coach do us a favor just admit your in over your head it’s ok . You don’t want to learn the community culture or tradition of monrovia. It’s more to monrovia than hanging out at gem city after games. Take a page from Ryan Maddox he learned the community got alumni on his staff who are known and respected in the community. 3 rings speak for itself without a youth program.
BG vs Montebello both team battle for the first half going back and forth good old rivalry match up could have went either way in the first half. Both team went into half time but Bell Gardens came out with a better game plan in the second half and pulled away. Congrats to both team!
@ Tim P., I kind of think SP has flown under the radar a bit this season. Which isn’t a bad thing. I was looking at some of their stats and talking to SP people I know and then went to the game last night. They have been without Senior QB Zach Lee for most of the season due to season ending injuries. They have been using a Sophmore named Nott. They don’t let him throw very much based on his stats and just watching the game last night. But he seems to be a good game manager. Because they got these two backs in Freking and Ortega, they played that clock and ball control offense. With about 3 minutes to go and after a failed onside kick, Monrovia didn’t even use their remaining time outs because they knew they couldn’t stop them from running the clock out.
Monrovia needs a younger coach who’s familiar with the area. Clifton and santa fe middle school has alot of talent… it’s like a puzzle the coaching staff doesn’t fit.
Los Altos white in white is as good as it gets.
Tim had Monrovia winning ny 3 touchdowns . CalPreps by 11
From T. Peterson: Yeah I had Monrovia winning. I didn’t think they would be in trouble until the La Canada game. I think the Spartans will win that one. SP-LC will definitely be a big game.
Don’t let monrovia record fool you they are horrible coached everyone’s comment since the summer. I’m truly embarrassed with this coaching staff. South pasadena ran the same play ten times in a row 260 yards on the grown. Quarterback couldn’t throw make adjustments head coach…..please send this staff back to the city section never should have been hired.
Friday Morning QB,
South Pasadena upset Monrovia last night?! You don’t say?!!! (sarcastic tone) Come on now, whoever didn’t see this coming is purposely ignoring how deficient the football coaching staff at MHS is. Similar to the school’s administrative staff.
They will be handled by La Canada, and will end the season beating up, likely dropping 40+, lowly Polytechnic, another school (along with San Marino, Temple City, Glendale, Palmdale) that should drop to 8-man football, or start co-ed flag football teams.
Would love to hear breakdown of game at South Pasadena , and commentary from Monrovia backers . Big upset that shakes up RHL! Somebody had it right .
I think Monrovia does have a more balanced offense this year , but not necessarily better without go to QB-WR connection , or on defense . If you can run and are committed to it , you can pound them .
Aside from Monrovia vs SP and BP vs SD I actually prefer hearing about some of the games on the quick hits section.
Want to hear about BG and Montebello match up, how well is Saint Paul doing, Pasadena’s schedule and outlook, San Marino’s downfall, the SEM vs Rosemead thrashing.
I come to this site well to see those match ups…
Not at all
That’s the best team Monrovia has beaten this year according to CalPreps
They do have a lot of talent ; other issues plague their performance !
Low Profile,
If you believe that Don Lugo is a top program, man-oh-man, do I have some BEACHfront property to sell you!!
I haven’t seen either team this year so I defer to your first hand assessment. Monrovia hasn’t beaten anyone of note , Don Lugo being top team theyve conquered. They were behind that entire game and were fortunate to win.
San Dimas dominated them . Although Hong is hone , Freking appears to be dynamic and improving and South Pas maintains a strong running game that can control clock.
I don’t know how they beat them last year lol maybe they can do it again
@ Low Profile, I think South Pas will have to play mistake free football to beat Monrovia this year (which was not the case vs San Marino). SP caught Monrovia on what people would say was a “down” year for them last season. Monrovia had no answer to Jason Hong. This year Monrovia looks to be improved as they would seem to have a more balanced run and pass attack. SP looks to be vulnerable to long passes. But as @Grim Reaper always points out, things can be crazy in the Rio Hondo League and expect the unexpected.
The one game I will give a different take on is Monrovia at South Pas.If South Pasadena can run the ball and control the pace , stay ahead and amplify Monrovia mistakes , they can take game to the end and maybe pull off upset at home . South Pas 21 Monrovia 20
