The TEN

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

1.)—Regarding Jalen Hurts being out for the season, the NFLPA is calling for a full investigation into the medical care and process of the Philadelphia Eagles.

2.)—San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama scored 12 points, grabbed 13 boards and blocked 6 shots….but was 1-for-13 in last night’s season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC won, 116-104.

3.)—“Have we gone into the fourth dimension? Or is this an Omen? Temple City is on a roll, seems building a new field may have lifted the Bruce Curse…Welcome back it has been a very long time.”—MVS commenter, Grim Reaper

4.)—Terry McLaurin’s season ends with torn patellar tendon—The TaxSkins WR suffered a torn left patellar tendon in Monday night’s loss to the 49ers and will miss the remainder of the season. The 31-year-old was carted off after a non-contact injury while running a route.

5.)—Ohio State QB Julian Sayin out indefinitely with throwing-arm injury—Sayin (Heisman contender) suffered the injury late in a win over Indiana and is expected to miss an extended period; the Buckeyes are planning for the possibility he misses the rest of the season and postseason. True freshman Luke Fahey and others will compete for the job.

6.)—No. The WNBA has not officially declared that only biological women can play in the league. The WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA) states that “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.” It does not define “woman,” does not reference biological sex or sex assigned at birth, and does not set out any specific policy on transgender athletes (hormone levels, puberty, or otherwise).

7.)—Pistons rally past Celtics 121-113—Detroit erased a 22-point deficit (largest opening-day comeback in the modern era in some reports) behind a strong second half from Duncan Robinson and others.

8.)—Tomorrow, on Prime, the New England Patriots play the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field for Thursday Night Football.

9.)—On this day in 1980, the Philadelphia Phillies won their first World Series championship in 98 years, defeating the Kansas City Royals 4-1 in Game 6. Mike Schmidt was Series MVP.

10.)—On this Date in 1973: Los Angeles Rams defensive end Fred Dryer recorded two safeties (end-zone sacks) against the Green Bay Packers in a 24–7 Rams victory at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Packers trailed 20–7 entering the fourth quarter and were pinned deep in their own territory.
Dryer first chased down quarterback Scott Hunter and tackled him in the end zone for a safety (Rams 22–7).
On Green Bay’s very next possession, still near their goal line, Dryer looped through the line and sacked backup quarterback Jim Del Gaizo in the end zone for a second safety (final score 24–7).
Both safeties occurred in the fourth quarter. Dryer became the only player in NFL history to record two safeties in a single game—a record that still stands.
